Heart Attack Grill Diet Claims First Awesome Victim
Mar 4th
Blair River, the 575 pound spokesman for the “Heart Attack Grill” has bit the dust. No, it wasn’t a heart attack, you haters. He died of what is likely to be pneumonia. With a few complications due to weight one can assume. Check out this awesome video of him in action:
And with waitresses like this, whatta way to go!
From the AZ here:
Blair River was a big guy with a big heart.
River, who stood 6-foot-8 and weighed about 575 pounds, gained a measure of fame in the past year as spokesman for the Heart Attack Grill, a west Chandler restaurant that specializes in thick hamburgers and fries. He died on Tuesday at the age of 29.
The cause of death is currently unknown, but friends are speculating that it was the result of his contracting pneumonia after a bout with the flu.
And its also a sad day whenever the official restaurant of Belch.Com loses a valued member.

How the Light Bulb Used to Be Amazing
Mar 2nd
The old tungsten filament light bulb is going away, and this technology to make tungsten ductile may also one day become a lost process. Something so simple that we all take for granted is a cool piece of tech that required thousands of hours of engineering effort.
I love the Engineer Guy’s vids.

Charles Dickens Memorial

I stumbled onto this carved panel on a building here in London’s Marleybone, depicting some of the famous characters created by the novelist Charles Dickens. Scrooge, Oliver Twist and others are shown.

About a bunch of fat fashionistas-

And here’s another, which is described on the site as a “must have for away teams and landing parties.”

Fail Whale Pale Ale TShirt
Feb 22nd
Saw this logo over at PoppedCulture. When technological failures get their own beers named after them, you know that failure is a pop culture icon. You can get the shirt here at IanLeino.
So what beer will be next to feature a failure in tech? The FourSquare Pouty Princess?

Eagle Hole Out on Grizzly Flats

A six iron against a pretty stiff wind and it rolls in perfectly for an Eagle.
And I scared some dude at the table next to the game when I shouted “Get in the Hole!”

HuffPo Sold to AOL
Feb 7th
The Price? 315 Million bucks.

From WSJ here:
AOL Inc. disclosed early Monday morning plans to acquire online news website Huffington Post for $315 million, as part of the Internet company’s attempt to turn its business around with a strategy of becoming a top producer of news, entertainment and other digital content.
Huffington Post, a news and analysis website founded in 2005, reached 25 million unique visitors in December, according to comScore. AOL says that a combination of the two sites will reach a total of 117 million unique U.S. visitors.
Huffington Post co-founder Arianna Huffington will run a new group within AOL responsible for integrating content between the two companies in the news, tech, women and other sectors. This includes AOL’s technology blogs TechCrunch and Engadget as well as its music and Patch local media sites.
Jason Mustian says the deal is worth
5 Billion Free Minutes of AOL, could potentially be met with antitrust opposition, once regulators confirm that AOL is still an actual company.
Does this mean that I will start getting CDs of the Huffington Post snail mailed to my home?

Category 5 Yasi Hits Australia; No Reported Deaths
Feb 4th
A huge Category 5 Cyclone slammed into Australia causing about 2 Billion dollars in estimated damage. Good thing that New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin wasn’t anywhere on that continent, otherwise lots of aborigines would have died.
From the Telegraph here:
A combination of luck and good planning has been credited with saving the lives of thousands of people in the path of Tropical Cyclone Yasi, which slammed into the Queensland coast early on Thursday morning whipping up winds of 180mph and waves of up to 30ft.
An estimated 400,000 people live in the region hit by the category five “monster” cyclone, but as day broke over a wet and battered 190-mile stretch of north Queensland, police said there had been no reports of deaths or serious injuries during the “terrifying” night. The massive cyclone, which hit at midnight (2am GMT), missed major population centres of Cairns and Townsville, making landfall at the smaller coastal communities of Mission Beach, Cardwell and Tully.
I’m pretty sure the mayors of those devastated towns won’t announce ambitious plans to create a “city of flavor.” Here is Mayor Nagin in a moment of black history, speaking on Martin Luther King’s birthday:

Will You Be My Star Trek Girl?
Jan 27th
Finally, I have a volunteer! I do have a problem with the 4 pips on the collar. Clearly she couldn’t rise above the rank of ensign much less wear Captain’s pips. Autotune this girl in the shower with her TOS-dressed friends and lets start this 24th century party.
Favorite line? “Like tribbles, we’ll cuddle day and night.” Set your phaser to stun, point at your head, and hit play.

Chippin’ With the 3 Wood
Jan 18th
One of the few bright moments of a recent game happened when I was able to chip from the fringe with a 3 Wood. For closer distances, nothing beats the 6 iron, but when you have a lot of green, the 3 works nicely.

Fantastic Futuristic Film- Charlie Chaplin on the Moon
Jan 14th
I saw this video at Buzzfeed and it took my breath away. The film maker, Scottish art director Ben Craig, has a wonderful taste and feel of a modern interpretation of life in space, not to mention a way to really move the viewer with sound and theme. You gotta watch.

In Golden Tee you can take advantage of hooking and slicing to get a great position or to drive the green. Bubba Watson demonstrates this quite well and eagles the 18th.

Cool Asteroids Wall
Jan 5th
I don’t think I’d go with yellow because it causes your rods and cones to just start seeing red all the time, but I love the idea.
From This Isn’t Happiness here. Asteroids is still one of the most difficult video games to play ever made, at least for me. And who can forget the tension that builds up with that game music that gets faster as the asteroids close in?
Well why not play?

R2D2 Mailbox at Udvar Hazy
Jan 1st
Also in the Space section of the Udvar Hazy, tucked away in a glass case next to the Space Shuttle Enterprise was this Star Wars mailbox. During the 30th anniversary of the Star Wars movie, the USPS issued a series of stamps and also painted a bunch of mailboxes to mark the anniversary.
This one is signed by George Lucas and the Postmaster General.

Dick Clark Says What?
Jan 1st
I watched Dick Clark get paraded onto the set where he gurgled and slurred the words on his cue cards until the ball dropped. At least he got the countdown right this year. About a minute in, he tries to eat some woman’s face and then berates Ryan Seacrest for being a pussy.
Last year he botched the countdown.
Dick Clark should go ahead and retire. Look, the only place they let you work with a microphone where you can’t talk is the Burger King drive thru up the road from my house.
