Key West Bed Races 2012
Apr 30th
Just when I think I’m up on my Key West culture and lifestyle, here come the bed races. The cops plow the road leading racers down Duval Street in their own makeshift beds, pushed by runners in various types of costumery.
Funny, they were racing right past a boutique where I purchased this fine chili-pepper chicken.

I Like My Ketchup-Covered Crazy KeyWest Homeless Guy With a Side of French Fries
Apr 16th
Heh, this blog post title is longer than the story I can quote. But there are indeed a lot of crazy homeless lunatics roaming Old Town Key West. They are usually pretty harmless, but if you get ketchup on one, watch out!
From KeyNews.com here:
The island just isn’t what it used to be.
A man who was covered in ketchup, sprawled in the middle of an Old Town street and screaming profanities about tourists ruining his town was arrested early Wednesday.
The 42-year-old homeless man was charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct and misdemeanor resisting arrest.
Should have covered him in hot sauce from Peppers of Key West!

Blue Door and Coral Walls
Feb 22nd

Blue Door and Coral Walls, a photo by BelchSpeak on Flickr.
We were out for a bike ride on Key West and came across this unusual-looking house. It had 4-foot walls made from coral boulders and stones and the most unusually colored blue door as a gateway into the yard. The dolphin topping the round hothouse also adds to the curiosity of this place.

Mile Zero

Mile Zero, a photo by BelchSpeak on Flickr.
Route 1 runs from here all the way up the east coast thru Maine to the Canadian border. It even runs through Richmond, VA and past Washington DC not far from my home. And there is a Wikipedia article on Route 1 here featuring more useless information about the street you’ll ever need.

All the Single Women
Oct 12th
i saw this photo on the wall at Harpoon Harry’s in Key West. I have no idea what was going on but one thing is certain- this is the shallow end of the gene pool.
Today is a travel day for me- jetting from Key West to San Francisco- and this may be the only post today. Try to leave the best caption for this photo or check out my archives.

Maidenhead
Oct 11th
Saw this maidenhead in a Key West art store and thought it was beautiful… Until I used a flash for the photo and now I think she is just plain creepy. Yet still awesome.

Sunset Mural
Jul 26th
Had to snap this photo of a mural in a keywest dockside ice cream parlor. We are now enjoying a couple of days in Lauderdale By The Sea for fun in the sand and surf.

6toed Sloth
Jul 24th
I got to visit the Hemingway House in Key West and the place was crawling with 6-toed cats, each a descendant of one of Hemmingway’s original cats.
And if you ever wonder what happens when these cats outlive their lazy lives, they go to the 6-toed kitty cemetery out back.

Hemmingway was a Badass
Jul 23rd
Thanks to Genius Scan, I was able to capture this fabulous photo from the World Famous Sloppy Joe’s Pub in Key West Florida depicting a reluctant Ernest Hemmingway out for a fishing trip off the coast of Peru during the filming of the Old Man and the Sea, a film adaptation of his famous novella.
In 1956, motorized fishing boats and fishing techniques for large game fish like the 900 pound Black Marlin caught here, were still in the iron age of development. It is so amazing that they were able to haul this gigantic predator to shore, on a lark while filming a movie.

Key West Bound
Jul 23rd
The family is taking a much-needed vacation. I’m blogging this as I hop key to key across the OverSeas Highway on the way to Key West. It’s hot here but no where near as brutal as the heat back in DC. I’ll post more when I can.
UPDATE Our son is so well behaved and patient. Traffic was brutal on a Saturday driving into Key West, yet he stayed patient, kind and calm the entire way.
