I saw this fantastic photo on FARK on another thread and couldn’t believe my eyes. In Nigeria it is common for street thugs to keep hyenas and baboons as pets, mostly because I think there is a shortage of pit bulls.

Typical of the geeks on FARK, I present you with this quote from the post:

Dude, where do you come from where a 2 meter rodent is “small”?

A place where Banthas are common beasts of burden, there is at least one Sarlacc, and it’s not unheard of to keep a Rancor as a pet.

I started searching the Internet to find out if this was a real photo or a real practice, and aparently it is. According to a blog post here, street thugs use these chained hyenas to frighten passersby in order to extort money from them.

There are also photosets here which show other Nigerians with their hyenas. Notable is how many of them keep what looks like a macrame muzzle on those creatures.

In order to feed these hungry beasts the typical Nigerian man must send 5 spam runs per day claiming that he has 110 million dollars US he needs to offload- phishing for fools that fall for their advanced fee fraud.
