Wow, this post has gotten quite a bit of Attention. This is a video of Diantha Harris, a lifelong democrat and avid Barack Obama supporter. She is also a lousy schoolteacher, as is evidenced by the mushmouthed kids in her class. And instead of concentrating on grammar and English, math and science, she abuses and ridicules any child who dares to speak up in support of John McCain. This video is part of a Finnish documentary on Obama fans, and it is shocking that you have to go to a foreign country to learn what goes on in our own classrooms.
See how she singles out the little white girl and mocks her for having an absent parent, who is off defending the country, and lies to her, saying her Dad would have to stay in Iraq for a hundred years? The little girl was ready to cry! Disgusting.
Diantha Harris: It’s a senseless war! [Stares at Kathy.] And by the way, Kathy, the person that you’re picking for president said [Harris shakes her head] that our troops could stay in Iraq for another hundred years if they need to! [Kathy bites her lip, looks ashamed. Other kids stare at Kathy, laugh, smirk.] So that means that your daddy could stay in the military for another hundred years!

Like I have some students that support John McCain, and when they told me that, I said ah … “that’s good’ and I just moved on. So, I think that everybody is entitled to their own personal opinion.

The school superintendent has launched an investigation. Here is what he wrote on the school website here about Diantha Harris’ classroom conduct.
I was shocked when I saw the clip of an interaction between a Cumberland County Schools teacher and her students as posted on YouTube. While neutral discussion of the political process is appropriate, at no time, particularly with elementary students, should a teacher infuse his/her political views into the discussion. Most disconcerting was the military slant that made its way into this discussion. We are a military community, serving over 15,000 military students and their families. We value the sacrifices, not only of the military parents but also those of their families.
We believe that military children are our children, military spouses are many of our employees, and military service men and women are our heroes. We proudly serve our military children and have received national awards for our support of military families.
I was particularly disturbed to see the uncomfortable position in which our children were placed due to the inappropriate actions of one of our teachers. Please be assured that the actions exhibited in this video are not consistent with the vision of the CCS. Moreover, the actions of one teacher do not represent the 7000 employees in our organization.
Once the video was brought to my attention, I immediately launched an investigation. Personnel laws prevent me from releasing information regarding individual employees and personnel action taken. I can assure you that upon completion of the investigation, I will take appropriate action.

My mother is a retired public school teacher with almost 40 years and has two master degrees. These videos that show teachers doing this to our kids angers her and horrifies her.
Angers her because these teachers make good teachers look bad, horrifies her because they can get away with this crap and brainwash our children.

Yes… one more reason I home school my 11 year old. You know… that little girl needed one more reason to feel different in that classroom. We all need to feel like outcasts. It’s good for us and makes us strong, right? Give me a break! How would things have changed if the rolls were reversed in this situation. If this were a mostly white school and a white teacher preaching McCain, and she ridiculed the poor little black kid… It would have been an intro into the news on every station. No, no… this isn’t about race.
I live in Asheville. We call it the Berkeley of the East.
After watching this video, when I write the check for my son’s private school tuition next month I won’t be thinking about the money… I’ll be breathing a sigh of relief that he won’t have to deal with such blatant stupidity in his education.

We live in a very Republican County and are having a meeting with a school board member as well as the Principal and Teacher at the Middle School my daughter attends. The teacher gave a lecture yesterday morning on how wonderful it was that Obama was elected President and how great socialism is and that Obama and McCain feel about the same on abortion. This is a social studies teacher who is supposed to be teaching ancient history but spent her class time indoctrinating the children on the virtues of redistribution.
I found this video to be disgusting! She was way out of line and should definitely be reprimanded. The school superintendent has surely heard about this by now, and should be organizing some training sessions to combat any future cases of this irresponsible behavior. If he hasn’t, he’s an idiot…… imagine the potential lawsuits! By the way….. I’m a teacher.

But this is no ordinary teacher, she is Diantha Harris, the ex-wife of Roy Harris, the man who asked George Bush Sr. in the Rose Garden of the White House, to visit his family in N.Carolina in 1992.
She really did not need to bring her political beliefs into teaching these children. Instead she should have stated that everyone in this nation is equal and entitled to have their own opinions. She overstepped her boundries and she should be called on the carpet for it. But then I read some of the garbage posted here and I have to admit education was lost on a lot of you too. You are as bad as she is suggesting that ALL public school teachers are like this and it is all about being a liberal conspiracy. Can you get any more stupid than that? Good greif! Why ya’alls musta bin home schooled. Learned that on the 6th day God made the Remington rifle to shoot the dinosaurs. And the homosexuals. Ignorance abounds on both sides folks. I’m a retired teacher and I have been watching this dumbing down of America since I started teaching in 1958. The ignorance that is being forced upon children is just unacceptable. And all the schools today care about is test scores on government mandated tests. The evaluation of teachers in most schools is a joke. If the principal likes you or thinks you are cute, or if you are a minority, you do well on evaluation. Good teachers are forced out due to low pay, stress, overwork and overcrowding, the emphasis on tests, being forced to teach out of their field, having to teach under horrible conditions, being threatened by students and parents, etc. Experienced teachers are cut in order for districts to save money, build new schools, or buy new computers, or even to increase administrator’s salaries.
Private schools can be just as bad as some public schools with a lot more favoritism and bullying going on, among other things. I sent my children to a private school in several places because I wanted them to have the religious element and more individualized attention. It was a disaster and I pulled them out. My son was slapped in the face and humiliated in front of his class by his teacher who was also the principal, repeatedly, I learned. The other students were told that, if they told anyone, they would get worse. When I found out and talked to the priest, he just thought that the woman wasn’t getting enough sleep! I told my son that he didn’t have to take that and, if it happened again, to just quietly walk out and come to my school. It did so I took my children out of school and put them in my school district.
Homeschooling might be good, if the parents are qualified and educated. But just look at how many parents do not have a clue about how to teach and are not educated themselves. I know one woman who decided to homeschool her daughter. The poor girl got 3 years behind in school. Her schedule was Homemaking: Clean the house for her mother and cook meals for her mother. Art: color in a coloring book designed for 5 year olds. And that was it! For 3 years! The mother finally put her child back in school for her senior year, just for the activities, and was upset when they put her daughter back and wouldn’t let her graduate with her class. She had all those TAKS tests to face, too, before she could get her diploma.
When I hear people telling others to homeschool their children, I think of how difficult that is, if the parents are not educated and able to teach.
I also think that, someday, the children are goint to get out in the world and have to deal with all kinds of people, many of whom are products of these schools and teachers.
I know, in some cases it works well. But you have to add a bit of caution.
I wish there were some way to remove these bad teachers and administrators, but, sometimes, that’s all they can get. Some people think those type of teachers are just great. And good teachers can’t get a job.
Good luck to that one little girl. It’s a shame that she is so outnumbered and being fed such drivel.

Seeing teachers do this must be painful to current and retired teachers alike. But many teachers unfortunately share an arrogance that what they do is so difficult that only those that undergo specialized training are qualified to teach.
I simply beg to differ. I have documented on this blog countless of times when teachers didn’t know what they were doing, or worse, were child rapists. I just don’t think the evidence nowadays points to any specialized skills in teaching, and this video is the perfect example of that.
And Hedonikos, of course all teachers aren’t like this. Most bust their asses in what is ultimately a job that offers few benefits and less rewards.
But with the advent of new technology, remote classroom software, great private curriculum, most parents can easily provide the equivalence of, and often better than, the education that can be offered in a state-run school.

This is just about the saddest thing I’ve seen in a long time. It’s difficult enough for a military family to cope with a dad being gone for long periods of time in the service of his county, but for this precious girl to have to endure this filth and hatred from an adult who is in authority over her is simply heart-breaking.

Harris on Thursday [November 6th] said she wasn’t advocating for one candidate over the other … She said her comments of “Oh lord” and “Oh Jesus” were her way of engaging her students to spur discussion. “I wasn’t necessarily pulling for one person or the other,” she said in a telephone interview from her home in Fayetteville. “If I was pulling for just one person then I would have never said the other person’s name.” She said her comment to the child whose father was in the military was not meant to change the child’s mind about supporting McCain.

No employee shall engage, during duty time, in political activities upon property under the jurisdiction of the City School District. “Property,” as used herein, includes school premises, property owned by the City School District and property in the possession of the City School District, whether by lease or otherwise.
Except as permitted under the Civic Center Act of any negotiated collective bargaining agreement, the following activities upon property under the jurisdiction of the City School District are specifically prohibited:
1. posting of political circulars, petitions and other materials on bulletin boards and facility walls
2. use of school mailboxes to distribute political circulars, petitions and other materials
3. distribution of political circulars, petitions and other materials during duty time
4. the collection and solicitation of campaign funds during duty time
5. solicitation of campaign workers during duty time
6. the use of pupils for writing, addressing or distributing political materials

Yes, it’s true, the dumbing-down of our students is a nation wide epidemic (See “A Nation at Risk”). Public schools are a government monopoly with a hidden agenda. As the NCLB Act distorts student learning with student performance, teachers are blackmailed to teach to the HIGH RISK TEST (aka State Standardized Test). As we know, Cecelia, if our district does not purchase the very expensive government produced test, we receive no federal funding. So in essence, the high and low students are melded into mediocre students. We have to spend less time with the proficient students, and more time with the below basic students because this is where we can raise our scores to make our AYP/API. If we do not make our API scores, the state takes over the school. It’s a crime what is happening in American schools. Monopolization. Mediocrity.

That teacher should be reported to CPS for mentally abusing the little girl. The military should step in to investigate the abuse of one of it’s soldier’s dependents.

I was not suggesting that teachers be replaced by computers. But parents can do better educating their children if they have the time. The resources and materials are available.

As you point out, all teaching materials necessary for educating kids are available online or can be found in any good store. What a teacher should bring is a well-rounded education and a sensitivity to children.

The tv-show called “Från Bill till Barack” (From Bill to Barack)is swedish and was sent on swedish public broadcasting network. The journalists are two experienced reporters known for the high quality of their work. I saw this documentary when it was shown here in sweden a few days before the election and could not believe it. Like mosts swedes I supported Obama but this kind of abuse must rightly disgust anyone. What kind of citizens do you get with teachers like that?
FYI Finnish tv broadcasts programmes produced by swedish tv because of their swedish-speaking minority who doesn’t have enough resources to produce documentaries like this.

I have been a practicing physician for over 25 years, and I placed my children in private school so they would not have to be exposed to this kind of nonsense. Ms. Harris is most likely protected by a strong union and tenure and could only be forced to resign or retire due to the union’s grievance and state civil service laws. By all rights, she should be brought up on a full disciplinary and tenure revocation session, but she never will be. She will take her hardly earned state teacher’s pension and retire early if forced to do so. Then she will sell her story to some Hollyweird whacko who wants to make her into a martyr. Years ago, the standards of civility would have had her leaving town immediately to avoid her well-earned public harassment, but now she is a celebrity. How times and morals have changed for the worse.
As someone who lives in Asheville NC (and did not vote for obama) I am really not surprised by this. I moved here from a conservative community a few months ago to attend UNC Asheville and it was a culture shock. Obama’s face was all over campus and big “help elect Obama” posters were everywhere. Moveon.org went around registering people to vote if they said they would vote for obama. if not, they didn’t register them. it’s terrible. But I wore my Palin button with pride

Take the time to get to know your kids public school teacher and you will teach your kids at home. I first said this 20 years ago and it is more true than ever. Get involved. Know what you child is learning.
This is beyond wrong. This is outragous. Its true, I just graduated from high school and the teachers in my school made sure that you felt that the liberal way is right and the GOP is wrong, a bunch of waraholics, and in some cases, the devil. The teachers would say that the GOP dosent care about us or the country but them-selves. I personally believe that politicians in general dont care about the people and that dosent bother me. The people should worry about themselves. People need to stop thinking that these politicians are going to pay for our mortgages, they must be hallucinating. If you owe money, YOUR FAULT. I shouldn’t have to pay for no one. The liberals are very good at pursuading the public in believing that they would help at least the lower class which most of the time dosent even pay taxes. At least to my eyes, the liberals are playing a very dangerous game and I strongly believe that they know exactly what kind of game. This is not looking good at all. We need to keep alive the thought of our Country First, and most importantly, our Christian Views in our hearts.

I called the school
I called the school district and I asked if Ms Harris worked for the school district. The lady who answered the phone replied, “Yes, unfortunately”. I asked what was being done to respond to this injustice. She replied that a serious response was be forthcoming and it would be posted by the superintendent on the district website. Ms. Harris not only needs to be fired, she should be ridiculed and banned from the teaching profession. She is a leftist.

I just surfed to the school’s website and left an e mail expressing my outrage for the Administrator. I suggest everyone do the same.
This Thanksgiving, I’ll be off to a large family gathering where I’ll be able to thank several of its members for their hard work and dedication, toiling in rural areas to teach children just like these. I’m awed by them because they work in substandard conditions for long hours for poor pay. But their love and caring, supported by their deep religious beliefs, brings them joy and they know they make a difference. I’m appalled by what I saw on the video, but there are good teachers everywhere. We all know the problems; it’s that the solutions often seem so out of reach.

I am ashamed for the person that thinks that she is a teacher……for a teacher, if this is what you can call her, speaks of the military that is protecting us day and night and giving up their personal lives to protect us and to speak to a daughter/son of the military, well that was is beyond all belief….i cannot believe that this person is permitted to ? teach our children she should be on the look out for a new job as this is NOT her calling….I am appalled that a school district would put up with this behavior….

I read somewhere this woman is actually teaching in FAYETTEVILLE NC which is right next to Ft Bragg. This seems all the more heinous as Fayetteville prides itself on it’s “Hometown Heroes”. I guess the school district doesent necessarily feel the same way. Nothing is too good for the soldiers… and that is what they will get – nothing good! I was shocked when I saw the clip of an interaction between a Cumberland County Schools teacher and her students as posted on YouTube. While neutral discussion of the political process is appropriate, at no time, particularly with elementary students, should a teacher infuse his/her political views into the discussion. Most disconcerting was the military slant that made its way into this discussion. We are a military community, serving over 15,000 military students and their families. We value the sacrifices, not only of the military parents but also those of their families.
We believe that military children are our children, military spouses are many of our employees, and military service men and women are our heroes. We proudly serve our military children and have received national awards for our support of military families.
I was particularly disturbed to see the uncomfortable position in which our children were placed due to the inappropriate actions of one of our teachers. Please be assured that the actions exhibited in this video are not consistent with the vision of the CCS. Moreover, the actions of one teacher do not represent the 7000 employees in our organization.
Once the video was brought to my attention, I immediately launched an investigation. Personnel laws prevent me from releasing information regarding individual employees and personnel action taken. I can assure you that upon completion of the investigation, I will take appropriate action.

As an Obama supporter I want to plead with everyone not to lump me in with this moron (or the other countless losers that I had to share my presidential preference with). Read Christophers Hutchin’s and Buckley’s endorsement of Obama and you kind of get where I am coming from.
This teacher is doing something that is completely inappropriate and she should be terminated. I know this crap goes on all the time everywhere as my 10th grade daughter complained of a similarly biased teacher. My daughter supported McCain (go figure?) and was constantly under a barrage of pro Obama-speak from her history teacher. Fortunately she can and does defend herself.

We are a retired military family, my husband served 20 years, something we are all proud of. I can’t imagine a teacher talking to one of my kids like that, thank God they attended scools on post during our tours.Most of the teachers were spouses of soldiers serving on the post. This teacher has no idea what it is like to have a parent serving. If Kathy’s dad is serving in Iraq what sort of trauma do you think that teacher imposed on her? I wouldn’t be surprised if Kathy has nightmares for months to come over that encounter. The superintendant states that they serve several military families at that school. Are all those children treated the same way? The vast majority of military families would vote for McCain because of his past military service. Why didn’t that teacher talk about the heroism of John McCain? This would have been a great opportunity for her to teach a little history!
I hope the parents of that school district demand that this “teacher” be reprimanded for what she did to that little girl, and a special note to Kathy: Don;t let anyone make you feel ashamed that your Dad is serving in Iraq, He is one of the bravest, most patriotic men in America, he is defending our country, protecting us, when you talk to him tell him America says “Thank you”!

I am very tired and angry at people like you who continue to deride the fine work of our nations teachers. We as teachers are doing a great job, and where we can correct in the children the misbeliefs of the parents, we are doing the very best thing for our country. You need to understand that many parents have misbeliefs from an unenlightened time. With a proper world view understanding of Evolution, we can help children overcome the disadvantages of intolerant parents views. As teachers we are so happy that it is now our time and we are doing the very best to help children have a better understanding of life and the world around us. And yes, the teacher in the video had every right and indeed a responsibility to help the children unlearn harmful beliefs about war and some invented god. And we are very responsible to teach tolerance and acceptance of people who are genetically homosexual. The children should also have the opportunity and encouragement to try on these attitudes to explore whether they are really suppressed gays themselves.
In short, get over it. Stop criticizing teachers, after all the only thing you do is breed them. We teach them and form them into the fine citizens they should be. Your time is over, support your teachers, don’t complain about us.
