Reason 142 to Homeschool: Obama Teachers Won’t Bully Kids Who Support McCain

Wow, this post has gotten quite a bit of Attention. This is a video of Diantha Harris, a lifelong democrat and avid Barack Obama supporter. She is also a lousy schoolteacher, as is evidenced by the mushmouthed kids in her class. And instead of concentrating on grammar and English, math and science, she abuses and ridicules any child who dares to speak up in support of John McCain. This video is part of a Finnish documentary on Obama fans, and it is shocking that you have to go to a foreign country to learn what goes on in our own classrooms.
See how she singles out the little white girl and mocks her for having an absent parent, who is off defending the country, and lies to her, saying her Dad would have to stay in Iraq for a hundred years? The little girl was ready to cry! Disgusting.
Diantha Harris: It’s a senseless war! [Stares at Kathy.] And by the way, Kathy, the person that you’re picking for president said [Harris shakes her head] that our troops could stay in Iraq for another hundred years if they need to! [Kathy bites her lip, looks ashamed. Other kids stare at Kathy, laugh, smirk.] So that means that your daddy could stay in the military for another hundred years!
[Kathy is on verge of tears.]
[In an interview later:]
Diantha Harris: Now I can support whomever I want to support, as long as I don’t browbeat another person for the candidate that they supported. Like I have some students that support John McCain, and when they told me that, I said ah … “that’s good’ and I just moved on. So, I think that everybody is entitled to their own personal opinion.
You know, the schools are banning kickball, dodgeball and tag on the playgrounds because they are afraid of bullies. Seems to me the bullies are the ones with the chalkboard erasers. Lots of thanks to Akira here for the video and the transcript.

The school superintendent has launched an investigation. Here is what he wrote on the school website here about Diantha Harris’ classroom conduct.
I was shocked when I saw the clip of an interaction between a Cumberland County Schools teacher and her students as posted on YouTube. While neutral discussion of the political process is appropriate, at no time, particularly with elementary students, should a teacher infuse his/her political views into the discussion. Most disconcerting was the military slant that made its way into this discussion. We are a military community, serving over 15,000 military students and their families. We value the sacrifices, not only of the military parents but also those of their families.
We believe that military children are our children, military spouses are many of our employees, and military service men and women are our heroes. We proudly serve our military children and have received national awards for our support of military families.
I was particularly disturbed to see the uncomfortable position in which our children were placed due to the inappropriate actions of one of our teachers. Please be assured that the actions exhibited in this video are not consistent with the vision of the CCS. Moreover, the actions of one teacher do not represent the 7000 employees in our organization.
Once the video was brought to my attention, I immediately launched an investigation. Personnel laws prevent me from releasing information regarding individual employees and personnel action taken. I can assure you that upon completion of the investigation, I will take appropriate action.

As an Obama supporter I want to plead with everyone not to lump me in with this moron (or the other countless losers that I had to share my presidential preference with). Read Christophers Hutchin’s and Buckley’s endorsement of Obama and you kind of get where I am coming from.
This teacher is doing something that is completely inappropriate and she should be terminated. I know this crap goes on all the time everywhere as my 10th grade daughter complained of a similarly biased teacher. My daughter supported McCain (go figure?) and was constantly under a barrage of pro Obama-speak from her history teacher. Fortunately she can and does defend herself.

Imagine if something happens to the girl’s dad, and she blames herself for it, since the teacher drew some sort of connection between “support McCain and your daddy will suffer!”

I don’t think so, especially if this video hadn’t been taken and publicized.
The problem is not JUST the teacher’s bias, but her cruelty.
You can see from the girl’s face how upset she is, and how full of doubt she became. It was a vicious and small-minded attack for having dared to disagree with a follower of THE ONE.

We are a retired military family, my husband served 20 years, something we are all proud of. I can’t imagine a teacher talking to one of my kids like that, thank God they attended scools on post during our tours.Most of the teachers were spouses of soldiers serving on the post. This teacher has no idea what it is like to have a parent serving. If Kathy’s dad is serving in Iraq what sort of trauma do you think that teacher imposed on her? I wouldn’t be surprised if Kathy has nightmares for months to come over that encounter. The superintendant states that they serve several military families at that school. Are all those children treated the same way? The vast majority of military families would vote for McCain because of his past military service. Why didn’t that teacher talk about the heroism of John McCain? This would have been a great opportunity for her to teach a little history!
I hope the parents of that school district demand that this “teacher” be reprimanded for what she did to that little girl, and a special note to Kathy: Don;t let anyone make you feel ashamed that your Dad is serving in Iraq, He is one of the bravest, most patriotic men in America, he is defending our country, protecting us, when you talk to him tell him America says “Thank you”!

I am very tired and angry at people like you who continue to deride the fine work of our nations teachers. We as teachers are doing a great job, and where we can correct in the children the misbeliefs of the parents, we are doing the very best thing for our country. You need to understand that many parents have misbeliefs from an unenlightened time. With a proper world view understanding of Evolution, we can help children overcome the disadvantages of intolerant parents views. As teachers we are so happy that it is now our time and we are doing the very best to help children have a better understanding of life and the world around us. And yes, the teacher in the video had every right and indeed a responsibility to help the children unlearn harmful beliefs about war and some invented god. And we are very responsible to teach tolerance and acceptance of people who are genetically homosexual. The children should also have the opportunity and encouragement to try on these attitudes to explore whether they are really suppressed gays themselves.
In short, get over it. Stop criticizing teachers, after all the only thing you do is breed them. We teach them and form them into the fine citizens they should be. Your time is over, support your teachers, don’t complain about us.

Absolutely unbelievable! I went to the Cumberland County Schools website: http://www.ccs.k12.nc.us/ and let them know what I felt about Ms. Harris. She should not be allowed in a classroom, ever!
This teacher needs to be fired! Lets see what happens. I’m guessing nothing. After all wouldn’t that make it a “racist” issue then? I feel sorry for little Kathy who was understandably upset. Talk about browbeating. I’ll bet you didn’t see any news coverage on this one. Can we say our press is to the left? What’s it going to take for the American people to wake and pay attention to what is going on in this country. I can’t even believe teachers can wear buttons showing who they are supporting. I think a “I voted” sticker would be the way to go. Let everyone else make up their own minds. That’s why it’s called “America” folks.

This teacher and any other like her should be immediately fired and barred from teaching and collecting welfare or food stamps she needs to get a real attitude adjustment.
This is child abuse pure and simple. They should be suing the school and teacher. The school for hiring such a person. That poor little girl! Teachers are doing this indoctrination all over America, but this is beyond too far!… I home schooled my kids. The first has her bachelor’s degree. The second has his bachelor’s as well. The third has taken a different route, and is has a assoc. in dental surgery assistant. I’m nothing special, but the kids did their studying. My one daughter got too far ahead of me in Math, so we sent her to school to be taught there by the Math teacher. The Math teacher set her to work teaching the class. This is no lie! I can’t believe the kind of teachers that are out there. However I do believe there are many good ones as well… Thanks

Wow. Really? Maybe teachers like you who come from Pacific Union College like to pile your students into naked gay pyramids. This would explain why so many of you sexually molest students.
There are lots of real teachers who are appalled at this behavior, but we all appreciate your contribution.
I have found out that it is not asheville, NC but Fayetteville, NC a more conservative area supposedly. My little nephews live in sherrills ford, NC but luckily they go to a chritian school.
I am curious to see what kind of grade that little girl can expect from a racist teacher.

If you REALLY are a teacher and the parents of your kids knew your beliefs you wouldn’t have a single child in your classroom honey!
Based on the secretiveness of the principal’s response, I would hazard a guess that the teacher involved will return next year with maybe just a reprimand and continue to indoctrinate her students. Lack of decisive action will lead to further acts of intimidation, I am sure. I would like to say that putting her name, phone number, etc. is not appropriate, either. Some crazy will use that data to bully her, just like she did in class. Neither action is warranted.
I see cousin Rachel appropriated my computer. No Rachel did not learn from PUC nor does she teach here. She is a certified teacher though in Minnesota. She obviously did not like my post and obviously did not care for this site that I left up. Yes she is a teacher, yes she really does believe what she posted. I understand where she is coming as I also grew up in the MN public school system where my classmates were ridiculed for traditional beliefs. My apologies for not setting a password on my computer. If she posts again it will not be from here. It is really hard to have a relative that is a militant gay. Especially one who really believes to the core of her soul that hetero parents are breeders only and not qualified to care for children beyond the hospital birthing room. I had a teacheR….like this; He failed me…We have such pukes in Canada. All beacause he believed in communist…other students called him comrade after they asked why I walked out…I went to the Liabary, during his class…read most of the books…it was 4 the best after all! My view of her pure EVIL…DISCRIMIATE PROPAGADA REVERSE RACICSM AGAINST WHITES… OBAMA —– he will be remebered as.. That One…you will come to know why in 3 yrs. So far I’ve been 97% right with my instinks. usally though 100%.
The State Board of Education in North Carolina should immediately revoke her teaching certificate and fire her for cause. She then should be placed on a black list that is available to every state and this fat racist pig should never be allowed to set foot in another classroom the rest of her life!!! “Stupid is as stupid does”, as Forrest Gump said.
I just want to point out to Cecelia and others who may think as such, there are no truly “uneducated” people in this country. If parents have a desire to home educate their children they are more than likely willing to go the extra mile to learn with their children. Really, can they do any worse than what government schools are doing?! Government school are not about educating children, but about indoctrinating them. That is why there is so little “thinking” going on in politics and so little resistance to socialism.
