Byron Sonne Denied Bail for Attempting to Use TATP Explosives

Byron Sonne, the so-called computer expert arrested prior to the G20 meeting in Toronto, has been rotting in a jail cell without being allowed to be free on bail prior to his trial. His bail hearing was yesterday and the judge flat out refused to allow Sonne to go free. He is too much of a flight risk or too dangerous to be free among the public. These are the only reasons people are denied bail.

From TheStar here:

A computer security expert arrested on explosives and weapons charges in a G20 security case has been denied bail for a second time. Ontario Superior Court Justice Janet Wilson gave her decision Friday on Byron Sonne’s bail appeal but did not read out her reasons, which are subject to a publication ban.

The next step in his case is a preliminary hearing in provincial court. Sonne, 37, was arrested on June 22 when police converged on his million-dollar Forest Hill home, days before world leaders descended on Toronto for the G20 summit. He faces charges of possession of explosives and dangerous weapons, as well as intimidation of a justice system participant and mischief.

His supporters, who all think they are computer geniuses, can’t puzzle through why on earth the courts don’t understand that Sonne is no risk to anyone. They refuse to think that someone who had tried to plant fake bombs in his own school and later obtained TATP over the Internet, the explosives used by Shoebomber Reed would be considered a threat to the public.

Sonne is where he belongs- behind bars. His supporters better get used to being disappointed. He will stay in jail after his conviction at his trial too. And then they will just have to bemoan the unfairness of the justice system as they refuse to accept reality that one of their own is a deranged criminal.

Don’t Free Byron.

Wow. So he’s a cyber security expert, and you’re a self proclaimed security expert. No offense meant, but the tone of this post and those facts tend to lend it to small people with small agendas being small on a big ol’ internet. I’m no security expert, and not extremely knowledgeable about the innerworkings of internet security or the like, but it seems like one wouldn’t need alot of technical knowledge to understand the motivation of this post. Kind of sad, but I guess it takes all types. Oh well.

  • Mitch you got your last comment way wrong. Let me correct your errors. First I am not a “self proclaimed” expert. I am certified as an expert by two nationally recognized certifying bodies of security professionals.

Byron had his only certification pulled when he was jailed for obtaining shoe bomber explosives from the Internet. And only other hackers think he is an expert in security.

Byron is an anarchist and an agitator who had previously planted fake bombs when he was in school. He is in jail because he cannot be granted bail due to flight risk or risk to the public

I have no idea what kind of agenda you think I have and you seem to lack the ability to describe it. Instead you choose words like “sad” and “small”

You need to face reality that Byron will be in jail for a long time.
