Most Valuable Painting By Living Artist

by Pat — Categories: Art — Tags: , , 2 Comments

I have pointed out some really crappy artists recently. Its about time I pointed out a really great one. Lucien Freud, a German artist is about to have one of his pieces become the most valuable piece of art by a living artist.

Its called Benefits Supervisor Sleeping. Yeah, the subject is fleshy and startling, but the colors, textures and style make this piece compelling. And the asking price at Christies Auction house? About 25 Million bucks.

The Guardian has the whole story here.

The work, painted in 1995, and now on public view in the UK for the first time, is predicted to become the most expensive painting by a living artist sold at auction, with an estimate of £12.7m-£17.7m.
