Katrina Survivor Abandons Children

No, not this mom. This one. The one that left her babies at home to fly to Nigeria to get married to a 419 scam artist she met on the Internet.

Katrina Moms can’t get out of the way of a hurricane, but they can fly to Nigeria to get married. I blame Bush.

From Chron.com here:

Harris County mother leaves brood to wed in Africa

A Harris County woman could face child endangerment charges after leaving eight children home alone while she traveled to Africa to marry a man she met on the Internet.

The mother reportedly flew to Nigeria on Monday, leaving the children with little food and no money.

A deputy making a welfare check at a home on Wednesday found six children between the ages of 1 and 9 alone inside. The children told the deputy their mother had left several days ago and they didn’t know how to reach her. The official says trash and roaches were found everywhere in the home.

A neighbor told investigators he had driven the woman to the airport for a one- to two-month trip to Africa, where she planned to marry a man she’d met online.

The children have been placed in foster homes.

The family apparently evacuated to LaPorte from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and then evacuated to Houston from LaPorte after Hurricane Rita, she said.

Would anyone really question the decision-making capabilities of someone too stupid to get out of the way of a hurricane? I bet she went to Nigeria because she thought she would become a millionaire by marrying Dr. Rex Motumbo, a dying banking official who is desperately trying to get 800 Million in US Dollars out of his country without anyone finding out.

Dr. Jones

Do not talk about fight club. Oops.

  • “Would anyone really question the decision-making capabilities of someone too stupid to get out of the way of a hurricane?”

It’s not as cut and dry as this statement makes it seem. I’m not going to defend why people who live in hurricane-prone areas choose to stay vs. go when a storm comes, but when my parents lived in FL they stayed for some and left for others, and I don’t consider my parents stupid people. Luckily they now live in TN where they almost got wiped out by a tornado the week after they moved. Natural disasters just effing suck.

As for this woman… Yah, no mercy. Stupidity abounds.

  • Your parents probably based their decisions to evacuate on the severity of the storms. Katrina was a category 4 bearing down on a city that was below sea level. The smart ones got out. The stupid ones got to watch their city turn into a giant pond.

Or maybe the smartest ones stayed? I heard that there were lots of college professors and nobel prize winners hunkered down in the Superdome. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • So this story will end up on mycrimespace.com?

  • Trench at MCS usually likes to have a myspace page to go with the story, but in this case, we don’t even have a name. That reminds me tho to check to see if they dropped the name on this horrible mom yet.

  • Ha, thanks Jay. Her name is Shanell Mosley. I’ll see if I can find her page.

  • Can’t find anything right now. Maybe the spelling is incorrect ๐Ÿ˜•

  • All I remember was that when Katrina hit – I was in france. Not just france – but in the Loire Valley, in some rustic 400 year old village – staying in a 200 year old cottage – and I HEARD PRESIDENT BUSH TELL PEOPLE THERE TO GET THE F OUT…

I wish all you ignorant prejudice people stop blaming katrina for this low life mother no matter were this mother is from these kids need help. Child neglect and abuse happens in evey city in america by the way houston and texas has its share of crime before katrina remember the mother who killed all three of her kids in a car

  • Nickeybee,
I fail to see how there is anything racist about this post. But I do see that Shanell was arrested when she landed in Houston.

But yes, crime does happen in every city as does, unfortunately, child neglect. However, I don’t think Shanell bought that house of hers with her high paying job, and I don’t think she flew to Nigeria to better the lives of the children she has that generates her welfare checks.

I think having the kids in a foster home is probably the best thing for them.

Nickeybee — You’re looking at life through racist glasses — your racism.
