Hometown Landmark Torched

Wow. I ate at this restaurant almost every Sunday after church when I was growing up. I still ate there on occasion when I would go home to visit.

Sammy and Nicks was destroyed by a fire. Video here.

From Wavy 10:

Landmark Hampton restaurant destroyed by fire

A fire has forced a Hampton landmark to shutdown. Sammy and Nicks has served the community at its location on West Mercury Boulevard near Aberdeen for more than 30 years. Word spread about the closing of Sammy and Nicks as fast as the flames that ate through the Hampton restaurant before dawn this morning.

Hampton Fire Crews say when they got here about 4:40 a-m, half of the building was already on fire, with the heaviest smoke coming from the kitchen. Sammy canavos opened the place with his brother-in-law, Nick, who died six years ago. Canavos said, “Some things you can replace, but I have a chandelier that used to be in my church, can’t replace that, pictures from 60 years I can’t replace that.”

Canavos wants to rebuild, but he says his decision depends on how much damage his insurance will cover.

The cause is under investigation, but fire officials say it appears to be accidental.

The Chandelier in the restaurant was almost iconic. It really wasnt all that pretty, but it was BIG. I hope he gets the place rebuilt. He had good food at great prices.

Do not talk about fight club. Oops.

I’m in mourning too. I worked there. ๐Ÿ™

  • So sorry about your job. Best of luck in getting back on your feet and getting the restaurant back in operation.
