Cool Shorpy Photo

I’m still loving the Shorpy site. It has really old photographs from contributors but mostly from national archives. I found myself staring at this one for a long time, titled “Four Dancing Figures.”

Embedded in the comments was this old Beatrice Lillie audio recording which I think compliments the photo well, even though the picture was from 1915 and the audio was from the ’20s.

The lyrics are:

THERE are fairies at the bottom of our garden!
It’s not so very, very far away;
You pass the gardener’s shed and you just keep straight ahead —

Little known fact about me: I have been driving around in my wife’s old Toyota since I have been going back and forth to DC and to Baltimore the past week or so. The upholstery of the car is pretty worn out so there are purple seat covers in the car- purple Amy Brown FAIRY seat covers. But I’m okay with that.
