Whiny Hippies are SHOCKED to Discover Solar Panels Don’t Come From Unicorn Poop

Solar Panels are created from an intense manufacturing process that uses many poisonous chemicals and a whole lot of electricity. So of course, the manufacturing is loud. A bunch of whiny hippies found this out and are cranky now.

From Boston Herald here:

A Devens solar panel plant near several Harvard farms is so noisy the horses have ulcers, the ducks have disappeared and a dog has started gnawing off doorknobs, angry neighbors say.

The nonstop noise from Evergreen Solar Inc.’s highly touted plant, which Gov. Deval Patrick has praised as “the leading edge of our clean energy economy,” is driving neighbors crazy and making their animals sick.

“To work in my garden, I have to wear headphones,” said Janice Perry, an acupuncturist whose Harvard farm abuts Evergreen’s new 450,000-square-foot manufacturing plant.

Since January, she and her neighbors have complained about noise coming from the plant, which the Marlboro-based company has said will one day employ 700 people and make 780,000 solar panels a year. The factory stretches the length of three football fields.

The Devens Enterprise Commission, which regulates the plant and other businesses on what used to be Fort Devens, has already slapped the company with two noise ordinance violations.

This green-energy company has polluted the neighborhood with noise, and it seems not to be working very hard to correct this,” Perry said.

This is a classic case of liberal elitists who want to be “green” but aren’t really willing to sacrifice any portion of their lifestyle to make it happen. And dogs chewing off doorknobs?! OMG, Panic!

  • I didn’t see anywhere in the article that it was hippies or liberal tree huggers doing the complaining. Far as I could tell, it might just as easily been gun totin’ NRA members. I don’t think I’d want that crap next to my home either.

  • Dlight,
Good point, but the article infers that this is a community that had formerly embraced the green tech, and it was hailed by the democrat governor as “clean energy technology” which turns out is not so clean at all.

And these are the same people that refused to allow windmill power because they didn’t want to see the windmills off the cape.

  • It IS noisy and I am a gun totin’ member of the NRA (Bobby, finish your bean curd and get me my Birkenstock’s) I’m really annoyed that they put this technology so close (now… Bobby; why are you acting out? I may have to put you in time out if you keep this up). Where was I. oh yeah, I don’t understand why they didn’t put this plant in West Virginia or (Bobby, Daddy told you that crayon’s are for paper not for the walls; how can daddy be your friend when you aren’t willing to be productive in a non-destructive way?) Now I’ve totally lost my place… Oh! Maybe they could move the plant to the Manassas Battlefield in Virginia. I heard that they’re already putting in power lines through that glorification of Southern folly so that I can make sure that I don’t have to turn off my computer ever again and can charge my iPhone, iPod as well as… (That’s it Bobby, now, I want you to go sit in time out and think about how friends don’t stab each other with kitchen knives). Anyway, you get my point. I have to go, my son is acting out and I need to have a stern friend to friend meeting with him.
