No More Childhood Fears

I often worry that my child is TOO fearless. Cartney will dive underwater. Jump into your arms from six steps up on the stairway, even if you’re not ready. He loves bugs and spiders. About the only thing he was afraid of was Buzz and Woody from Toy Story.

He loves every other Pixar movie, even the awful Ratatouille, but whenever he would see talking toys on screen, he would run from the room and cry in hysterics. He is pushing three now and I was wondering when he would be able to push past this fear. I mean, I understand, talking toys can be a scary thing to ponder especially if you have to sleep in a room full of them at night.

So we bought him a Woody doll for Christmas. He loves the inanimate doll, or at least, didn’t run from the room when he saw it. We tried to get him to watch Toy Story the other night and he flat out refused and even whined. But the next morning he picked up the DVD and asked to watch Woody. For the first half, he stood with one foot out of the living room and one in just in case he had to run for it. But by the end he wanted to watch it again. And again. And again.

I hope the kid enjoys this brief period when he has no more fears. Soon it will be big barking dogs, clowns or any other number of childhood fears to content with.
