Three Fox Vineyards

It was a perfect weekend for touring the wineries of Northern Virginia. We stopped by the Three Fox Vineyards today for a tasting and a fine picnic lunch of fruit, cheese and dry sausage.

Three Fox is located between Middleburg and Warrenton near route 17, on scores of acres of rolling hillsides. The property features strategically placed picnic tables on hilltops and dales in order to enjoy the view and the shade. there are even hammocks in a valley that visitors can enjoy with their favorite bottle of red or white wine.

My favorite wines from this winery were the Leggero Chardonnay and the Allouette Cabernet Franc. The Chardonnay was crisp and tasty with a hint of fruit. It went very well with the cheese we brought and the light fruits.

The Cab Franc was a deep dark wine with a beautiful inky color. It was excellent with olives and spicy goat cheese, and it was perfect with the chocolate we brought for dessert. We bought an extra bottle for our enjoyment next time we grill a steak.

Three Fox Wines are not the best in the region, but the countryside and beautiful surroundings make this vineyard a must see if you are touring wineries in Northern Virginia. Stop in and grab a bottle and lounge in a hammock or on a blanket on one of the many hillsides.
