Sans noticed a large spike in domain name registrations with the keyword “Ernesto” in the past 24 hours. This activity is likely due to hoaxters that are trying to cash in on any pending hurricane related tragedies.

Lots of fraudulent websites were setup in the wake of Hurricane Katrina to solicit donations for the hurricane victims, and some even touted the use of air lifting goods and supplies to the NOLA region.

While Ernesto is going to be a bust as far as hurricanes go, the season is not over yet. There will be other disasters, and where there is misery there are miscreants that will try to separate you from your money.
