The Real War on Women: Afghan Woman Executed by Taliban With Video
Jul 8th
An Afghan woman was executed in public to the cries of Alahu Akbar. These people should all be bombed back to the stone age.
From CNN here:
Officials in Afghanistan, where the amateur video was filmed, believe the woman was executed because two Taliban commanders had a dispute over her, according to the governor of the province where the killing took place.
Both apparently had some kind of relationship with the woman, said Parwan province governor Abdul Basir Salangi.
“In order to save face,” they accused her of adultery, Salangi said.
Then they “faked a court to decide about the fate of this woman and in one hour, they executed the woman,” he added.
Both Taliban commanders were subsequently killed by a third Taliban commander, Salangi said.
“We went there to investigate and we are still looking for people who were involved in this brutal act,” he said.
It is not clear from the video when it was filmed.
The killing took place in the village of Qimchok, not far north of the capital Kabul.
And we are getting ready to pour billions of aid into this godforsaken country.
Nearly nine out of 10 women suffer physical, sexual, or psychological violence or forced marriage at least once in their lifetimes, Human Rights Watch said in its 2012 annual report.
Hundreds of students and teachers at girls’ schools in the country have been hospitalized with suspected poisoning this year alone. Girls were forbidden to go to school when the Taliban ruled the country from 1996 to 2001.
Representatives of more than 80 nations and organizations met to consider pouring billions more aid dollars into the country. U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon urged delegates including U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton not to demand complex reforms in exchange for the money.
So a requirement to stop public executions of women is a “complex reform?”

Feeling Nostalgic for President Bush
Apr 29th
Our former President is keeping a low profile but we still love to hear that he is helping others while also being his lovable self. In the pic below, Bush winds down an awesome bicycling rally with a dance and he barely moves his feet while dancing with a wounded warrior. But Bush’s grin is genuine as is the smile on the face of the woman who lost a leg in combat.

Soldier Slaughters 16; Korans Safe and Sound
Mar 12th
An American soldier has been reported to have snapped and slaughtered 16 people including women and children in Afghanistan. Looks like Obama is going to be doing a lot of bowing and apologizing in the coming days, not that it does any good.
From the DailyMail here:
Sixteen innocent Afghan civilians – including nine children and three women – were shot and killed by a rogue U.S. soldier who opened fire after suffering a ‘mental breakdown’ early this morning.
The Army staff sergeant, who was stationed at a U.S. base in Kandahar, reportedly entered three Afghan family’s homes at about 3am Sunday morning and began the killing spree. A relative of the deceased added that he then ‘poured chemicals over their dead bodies and burned them.’
The shooter was identified by U.S. officials as an Army staff sergeant from Fort Lewis in Washington state, and was believed to have acted alone. Initial reports indicated he returned to the base after the shooting, calmly turned himself in and was taken into custody at a NATO base in Afghanistan.
War is hell. I honestly find it hard to believe that we are doing anything with the post-stoneage culture of the Afghanis. Nothing there will change as long as they remain an Islamic dominated society, and its time we stopped pouring money down the drain there. The slaughter was likely because the local chieftan betrayed the soldier’s unit somehow or maybe it was related to the silliness over the Koran burnings. But hey, at least no one bled on the Holy Book of Islam, right?

How Obama Supporters Feel About Libya
Mar 27th
They are too stupid to be able to draw any realistic comparisons to Iraq and Bush, who actually got a Congressional mandate to support the 17 UN resolutions with military action. Obama gets one flimsy UN resolution condemning violence and he uses that to bomb Libya without Congressional approval while he was vacationing in Rio.

How You Know We Won in Iraq: PORN!
Aug 23rd
Nothing shouts American victory more than the freedom Iraqi street vendors have to sell their wares: DVDs full or lovely porn, and they proudly have all types.

From the AP here:
The nude women on the DVD cover in a Baghdad street stall say it all: Change, whether you like it or not, is afoot in Iraq.
Hundreds of porn DVDs are stacked elbow-deep on a wooden table in Jassim Hanoun’s ramshackle stall on a downtown sidewalk. His other tables have Hollywood blockbusters, like “King Kong.” But not surprisingly, it’s the sex that sells best.
“I’ve got everything,” Hanoun says of his sex selection, flashing the kind of impish grin only a 22-year-old in tight jeans and slicked-back hair can pull off with any real conviction. “What do you want? I’ve got foreign films, Arab, Iraqi, Indian, celebrities – whatever you like.”
The porn, in an odd way, has told the story of Iraq’s security and political situation since Saddam Hussein’s ouster in 2003. It emerged in the anything-goes atmosphere that erupted in the vacuum immediately following the U.S. invasion – then went back into hiding amid the anarchy when armed militias roamed the capital through 2008, targeting those they saw as immoral.
Its reemergence since then reflects how security has improved but also how the fragile government is busy with more pressing issues than spicy videos.
With politicians deadlocked the past five month trying to form a new government, whether Hanoun stays in business depends less on customer demand than on who takes the reins of power and if security is maintained.
The openness with which porn is sold in some of Baghdad’s streets is almost unheard of in the Arab world.
A progressive society where differences are worked out with speech and not guns or beheadings are the best thing for the Iraqis. But in Iraqi porn, do they remove the burkas?

Red Shirt, Pink Boxers, and Shower Shoes
May 14th
Equals awesome front page photo on the NYTimes. Those shorts have “I love New York” printed on them.

The caption reads:
Army Spc. Zachary Boyd of Fort Worth battles the Taliban on Monday in Afghanistan as he wears his “I love NY” boxer shorts. Boyd rushed from his sleeping quarters to join his fellow platoon members.
The rest of the story is here.

Israel Under Cyber Assault?
Jan 5th
Over at Sans’ Stormcenter here, there is a report of cyber warfare being conducted against Israel in response to the invasion of Gaza. So far, hundreds of servers have been defaced and there are DDOS attacks reported against several sites. However, none of these attacks have prevented Israel from slicing Gaza in two.

This just goes to show that real warfare beats the cyber kind hands down. Compared to a rolling column of tanks, a web defacement is just an angry nerd tapping on a keyboard. And when it comes to privacy, an army rampaging in your town will typically do more to invade your privacy than a data leakage.

Global Warming Makes it Snow in Baghdad
Jan 11th
This is cool on several levels. First, cold weather like this chips away at the Global Warming hoax. Second, it makes the heads of young eco-religious zealots ache by forcing them to concoct some stupid scientific excuse why the cold weather was actually caused by Global Warming. And finally, it gave a great excuse for everyone in the city to go outside and rejoice at seeing something truly unique in their lifetimes.

An Iraqi couple enjoys a snow battle in a garden in Sulaimaniyah in 2007. Light snow fell in Baghdad in what weather officials said was the first time in about a 100 years.
From the AP here:
For the first time in memory, snow fell across Baghdad.
Although the white flakes quickly dissolved into gray puddles, they brought an emotion rarely expressed in this desert capital snarled by army checkpoints, divided by concrete walls and ravaged by sectarian killings — delight.
For a couple of hours anyway, a city where mortar shells routinely zoom across to the Green Zone became united as one big White Zone. As of late afternoon, there were no reports of violence. The snow showed no favoritism as it fell faintly on neighborhoods Shiite and Sunni alike.
