Chesapeake Virginia is apparently full of people who won’t pay their personal property taxes on their cars. And now the city is stealing peoples’ cars for non payment of taxes. Where is a good mob when you need one?

Patrick Joyce’s daughter walked out of a Walmart with her baby last Sunday night and watched as her car was towed.
Another family’s car was towed after football practice at 8:15 p.m.
A woman’s car disappeared after she left it at a service station overnight, leaving her wondering if it had been stolen. It, too, had been towed.
Those residents all knew their personal property taxes were overdue, but they weren’t ready for another $230 or more tacked onto their bill, and they didn’t think they’d get towed after hours or on a Sunday.
At the start of the month, the city launched a boot-and-seize program to collect more than $10 million in delinquent taxes over six years and sent a list of about 17,000 plate numbers to Virginia Auction, the contracted company.
Chesapeake is a crappy place to live already. Now they are depriving citizens of property without due process, employing scumbag tow truck drivers to steal vehicles. Here is an older story where a Virginia Two Truck driver kidnapped a child.

Governor Paterson helps out in New York City by towing a stranded front loader. Sure he scrapes up a Ford Explorer pretty badly, but its hard to drive a tow truck correctly when you are as googley-eyed as he is.
Yeah, I know, you are saying, “Pat, the man is blind, how can you make fun of him like that?” To which I say, its easy, and its not like he’s going to be able to read this now is he?

As I have said before, tow truck drivers can be real heroes when helping out stranded motorists. Quite a few have helped me out over the years. But they can also be predatory scumbags with no scruples, who are essentially licensed by the state to steal cars and hold them for ransom. This post is not about the tow truck drivers who are heroes.
Imagine the horror of having your two-year-old kidnapped by a scumbag tow truck driver. It happened here in Virginia. From Fox5 here:
Two Fredericksburg-area tow truck employees have been charged with felonies after towing a vehicle with a small child inside.
Police said 25-year-old Jason Bryant of Spotsylvania and 21-year-old Derek Miller of Stafford were charged with child endangerment.
The Patriot Towing employees didn’t realize the mistake until getting back to the business shortly after with the car. The 2-year-old girl was unharmed and was returned to her mother.
Police said the men were on the lookout for improperly parked vehicles at a housing complex and saw the woman’s car double parked Sunday.
The mother told police she ran into the home to talk to some people and left the car running and unlocked with the girl in a car seat. When she returned five minutes later, the car was gone.
Predatory bastards. How terrified must that child have been? I’m surprised the assholes returned the kid without making the mom pay a “storage fee.” And notice the story says they returned the kid, but not the car?
