Crazed Loon Tries to Sacrifice his Son
Apr 30th
There are whole religions based on sacrificing your only son- something that Joseph Ramirez, 30, tried to do in San Diego. Ramirez heard his dead granny talking to him, demanding a blood sacrifice, so he slit his 8-yo’s wrists. Luckily someone put a stop to it before the boy died.
From NBC SanDiego by way of Pat Dollard,
Joseph Ramirez, 30, took his family to Mount Hope Cemetery Saturday around 4:30 p.m. and told them his dead grandmother told him to sacrifice the 8-year-old boy, according to San Diego police.
Officers released a report stating Ramirez had brought candles to the cemetery. One of the candles broke, and he used a piece of the broken glass to slash open his son’s forearms.
Ramirez then slashed his own forearms.
Medical assistant Corey Granberry witnessed the incident and jumped in to help along with her best friend Jaymisha Pires.
If only Ramirez had changed his mind and butchered a lamb instead- he could have started a new religion plus only be charged with cruelty to animals.

Refugee Wife of Iraqi Shiite Imam Murdered in California
Mar 26th
Someone broke into the home of a Muslim mother and bludgeoned her to death with a tire iron. The attacker left a note calling her a terrorist and demanding she go back to her home country. Of course there is already an outcry of hate crimes, but a home invasion crime in an upscale neighborhood in broad daylight has aroused my suspicions. The investigation is still underway.
And from the WaPo here:
Shaima Alawadi, 32, was taken off life support on Saturday, three days after her 17-year-old daughter found her unconscious in the dining room of the family’s El Cajon home in suburban San Diego.
Investigators said they’re exploring all aspects of her slaying, including the possibility that the attack was a hate crime.
Alawadi’s father is Sayed Nabeel Alawadi, a Shiite cleric in Iraq, a Muslim leader in Michigan told the Detroit Free-Press on Sunday. “Everybody is outraged,” Imam Husham Al-Husainy of the Karbalaa Islamic Education Center in Dearborn said. “This is too evil, too criminal.”
Alawadi moved to the United States in 1993 with her family and was part of a wave of Shiite Muslim refugees who fled to Michigan after Saddam Hussein cracked down on an uprising in 1991.
After living in Dearborn for a few years, she moved to the San Diego area in 1996, graduated from high school and became a housewife raising five children.
Alawadi’s brothers worked for the U.S. Army, serving as cultural advisers to train soldiers who were going to be deployed to the Middle East. Another family friend told the San Diego Union-Tribune that Alawadi’s husband had a similar job.
It was a heinous crime and no one has been arrested. But the woman was a daughter of a political leader in Iraq, so I am also apt to think she may have been a target of political assassination, but details of the crime are still not fully known. But people just don’t break in and hate murder people in San Diego.

Sunny Lizards and Cactus Flowers
Apr 15th
More photos from my trip to Balboa Park. It has been relatively chilly in San Diego the past few days and the lizards need to sun themselves on rocks to maintain warmth. And the pink flowers are everywhere this time of year. Whole hillsides are painted pink with these things.

San Diego’s Bernardo Winery
Apr 14th
I had a chance to do some wine tasting this afternoon so I drove out to the Bernardo Winery in the hills above the city. The winery is pretty old and the suburbs have encroached upon this winery. I had to drive past a couple of elementary schools and tons of ranch-style homes to get there. And California? How about putting highway markers showing wineries at certain exits from the highway?

Most of their wines are made from grapes from elsewhere in the state, mostly because their acreage is so small. As such, the Chardonnay was simply standard-issue. Unremarkable with a hint of oak. Likewise, their Merlot was so heavy and rich in tannins it felt like my teeth were being stripped with a solvent. Pretty harsh stuff. But they did grow a Syrah on the property and they bottled it as their Estate Reserve. It had wonderful tastes of citrus and sage, but it was way overpriced at 42 dollars per bottle.

They did have a Burgundy on hand. I don’t get many, if any Burgundies back home in Virginia, and theirs was very light, crisp and smooth, like a great table wine. Probably the best pick of the bunch for the price.
Most remarkable about the Winery is the way they created an artist’s village around their tasting room. They had handcrafted jewelry, wedding gowns, custom purses, a couple of restaurants, and more. Quite the little tourist trap!

Chuck Jones London
Apr 13th
So I’m wandering around the gaslamp district of San Diego having some margaritas and other tasty goodies and I spot a sign of Marvin the Martian pointing his way into the Chuck Jones Gallery.
I geeked out. This is the man who brought Dr Seuss’ Grinch to wonderful life and made Bugs Bunny the legend he is today. The gallery was full of original watercolor and acrylic pieces. I held at one point an original watercolor on canvas piece of the grinch giving a who-ornament to little Cindy-Lou who. It was 900 bucks. More than most of my comics.
The above piece was by far my favorite. Spectacular ink lines and watercolor of downtown London.

Congress to ACORN: GTFO!
Sep 17th
The US House of Representatives followed the US Senate and signed a bill that completely defunds ACORN, that loveable group of community organizers that try to setup brothels for underage illegal aliens. The House bill passed overwhelmingly, 345 to 75, which means that there are 75 more democrats who think that enslaving children to sex abuse is just peachy.
This is what real citizen activists can do. Way to go James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles! There are still more videos coming out, including some from San Diego that shows how ACORN was going to assist a pimp and a prostitute in human sex slave trafficking.
