Blogging has been light since I’ve been working to replace my back deck. Thankfully, my buddy Dan was over to help and we’ve made quite a bit of progress. This first photo is a picture of the new deck planking. We used a composite board that will be weather proof and stain proof and never produce splinters since we spend so much time in the back barefoot.
The next photo is of sunburnt Dan beginning to regrade the patio area. We had some major erosion issues and when it rained the water would pool toward the house. Regrading should get the water to drain away from the house.
Oh, and did I mention that we did this work in the 100° weather? We were battling to complete the project and also battling dehydration. The largest amount of effort was spent in transporting materials to the yard. We are in the middle of a row of townhomes and we had to lug about 30 bags of paver sand and 30 bags of pea pebbles the long way around the house. And there was also the matter of disposing the old decking. We had to rent a truck and make a run to the landfill today- weight of the items we pitched came in just under a ton.
