Court Compels Hard Disk Decryption

In the first case of its kind, a woman has been ordered by a court to decrypt her hard drive so that prosecutors can use the decrypted files against her in court. She tried to plead the fifth amendment and not turn over the files, but was somehow overruled. This is different from border crossing cases where customs officials have compelled decryption for use in searches- since the laptop is treated like a “container file” and the container is not actually on US territory.

A judge on Monday ordered a Colorado woman to decrypt her laptop computer so prosecutors can use the files against her in a criminal case.
The defendant, accused of bank fraud, had unsuccessfully argued that being forced to do so violates the Fifth Amendment’s protection against compelled self-incrimination.
The authorities seized the laptop from defendant Ramona Fricosu in 2010 with a court warrant while investigating financial fraud.
The case is being closely watched (.pdf) by civil rights groups, as the issue has never been squarely weighed in on by the Supreme Court.
They have the data on that drive already. But if you have to verbally disclose a password to decrypt, how is that not self incrimination? I am usually on the law enforcement side of things when it comes to cyber evidence, but in this case, the accused has solid rights. They can take property under due process, but they cannot compel you to speak a single word against yourself, and that includes a password. It will be interesting to see what happens with this case. What she should have said is she uploaded all of the files to MegaUpload.

Arkansas Democrat Kills Own Pet and Blames Republicans

Democrats have a long- sad- history of creating fake hate crimes against themselves in an attempt to draw attention to themselves and become some kind of perverse martyr. With Jewish liberals, they draw swastikas on their own homes. Blacks will sometimes burn crosses or tie pieces of rope into a noose. So what does a white hillbilly from Arkansas do to fake hate crime himself? Why murder his own cat and write “liberal” on it of course!

It was Jake Burris, Ken Aden’s campaign manager. Last night, Jake and his four kids had come back to their Russellville home. As they were getting out of the car, one of his children discovered their family cat dead on the front porch. One side of the animal’s head had been bashed in and an eyeball was hanging out of its socket. But there was something even more horrifying to be found on the corpse.
Written across the animal’s fur in black marker was the word “LIBERAL“.
This is terrorism. There’s no other word for it. A police report has been filed. Jake said the kids seem to be handling it okay. The one that discovered the cat was too young to be able to read and Jake had quickly gotten the others into the house before they saw it. Pope County is an insanely conservative area and the Aden campaign has been shaking things up even there and it looks like another right wing sociopath with a taste for violence has come crawling out of the woodwork in response. I asked Aden for a comment on the record:
“This is sickening. To kill a child’s pet…I’m at a loss for words…I’ve seen the best and the worst of humanity, but this is something else.”
Both Ken and Jake though made it clear that they weren’t going to back down on the campaign trail, both agreeing that caving to this kind of behavior would only make things worse.
“I’ve got a gun and I know how to use it.”, Jake said. “If I have to protect my kids I’ll do it without hesitation.”
This happened the same night that Gabby Giffords, the survivor of a heinous act of violence, announced she was resigning from Congress. To think of something happening here like what happened in Arizona, the possibility of that happening to Ken or to someone on his campaign team, is frightening beyond belief.
This is laughable. Jake Burris killed his own cat to garner attention and sympathy in his own “insanely conservative district.” And no, its not terrorism, its just another liberal desperate for attention. And to even compare what happened to Gabby Giffords is sickening. Gabby was shot in the face by a crazed LIBERAL pothead- and not for anything Sarah Palin had said, which is still apparently the meme among liberals. The news will come out soon that this was all staged to garner sympathy, and the only terrorism going on is Jake Burris terrifying his own children in the name of liberal idealism.

Canadian Web Developer Sentenced to Death in Iran

Saeed Malekpour is a web developer and an Iranian citizen who was living in Canada and trying to become a Canadian citizen. He flew back to Iran to visit his father in 2008 and somehow managed to get arrested for inventing the method for uploading porn to the internets. Now the mullahs for the Religion of Peace who are running Iran have sentenced him to death like a common street homosexual.

An Iranian court has upheld its decision to sentence 35-year-old Saeed Malekpour to death for developing photo-uploading software used by porn websites.
Iran’s Supreme Court maintains Malekpour promoted such sites because his name was on the software. Amnesty International says Malekpour was unaware that his software was being used for pornography. He was sentenced to death in June 2011. The court accused Malekpour of “insulting and desecrating Islam.” On Tuesday, the court ruled to move forward with the death sentence, which could be immanent, Amnesty says.
Malekpour, a Canadian citizen, was arrested when he visited his father in Iran in 2008. He was allegedly tortured for one year while he was held in solitary confinement in Tehran’s Evin Prison.
Iran’s draconian stance toward Internet freedom is well known. Earlier this month, the government announced a “Halal” Intranet, free of Western influence.
The man is going to get murdered by the Iranian state for writing an ActiveX script to transfer files from the desktop to a server? And liberals thought the world was being unfair to MegaUpload’s Kim DotCom? But a State that murders every homosexual it can find, is going to cap a Canadian WebDev guy, and the strongest adjective this article can use to describe the disgusting situation is “Draconian?!” We should tell the Iranians who the real author of that software was- Mumia Abu Jamal!

MegaUpload Closed Down for Piracy; Cannibalism

I got files. Lots of files. I have so many files that I need huge storage space to store it all. But I have local storage for my files. I don’t give my stuff to websites, file lockers, drop boxes, and especially not to MegaUpload. And its true- I don’t do online backups because I choose to maintain custody of all of my data. And because I don’t use online filestores, the story about MegaUpload having its site raided by the FBI was a little bit alarming, and I thought it might be some type of gross overreach of justice and quite a bit on the shady side- And then I got a load of the fat piece of shit who calls himself Kim Dotcom, and thought instantly, oh yeah, they’re all guilty. He looks like he’s been eating third graders.

The FBI has busted the operators of Internet locker service Megaupload, which had become one of the most popular video destinations on the Web, according to a statement from the U.S. Justice Department and FBI. Seven people have been named in an indictment and four suspects have been taken into custody. They have been charged in Virginia with crimes related to online piracy, including racketeering conspiracy, conspiring to commit copyright infringement, and conspiring to commit money laundering.
The suspects face a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
Megaupload is led by Kim DotCom, aka Kim Schmitz, a German with a colorful history who was once convicted of a felony but who has repeatedly denied engaging in piracy.
“This action is among the largest criminal copyright cases ever brought by the United States,” the statement said. The action “directly targets the misuse of a public content storage and distribution site to commit and facilitate intellectual property crime.“
This story, the photo of a massive rich fatty, plus the fact that Anonymous had a collective hissy fit today and launched DDoS attacks against DoJ and Music and Movie studio sites, leads me to believe that MegaUpload was being quite shady indeed. You can have file storage, but you can’t facilitate the commission of criminal filesharing. Napster was the first, then Kazaa, Gnutella, and all the rest. If you don’t first secure the site against illegal sharing you are headed for trouble.

Symantec Confesses to P0wnage? Maybe Not?

Symantec has been p0wn3d according to hackers. And after strong denials of a penetration the hacker group came forward and promised to release PCAnywhere to blackhat for penetration testing. Suddenly Big Yellow sings a new tune and admits “yeah, maybe all our software was stolen or something.”

Previously, Symantec had denied that its own network had been breached, and instead pointed fingers at an unnamed “third party entity” as the attack’s victim. Evidence posted by a hacker nicknamed “Yama Tough” — a self-proclaimed member of a gang calling itself “Lords of Dharmaraja” — indicated that the information was obtained from a server operated by the Indian government.
Two weeks ago, Symantec spokesman Cris Paden said that the hacker made off with source code of Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 and Symantec Antivirus 10.2, enterprise products between five and six years old.
Today, however, Paden said that source code of Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition, Norton Internet Security, Norton Utilities, Norton GoBack and pcAnywhere, had been stolen.
Yama Tough promised to release more than a gigabyte of the source code for Norton Antivirus — the hacker did not specify which version — but he said the group has since reconsidered.
“We’ve decided not to release code to the public until we get full of it,” Yama Tough wrote on Twitter Monday. “1st we’ll own evrthn we can by 0din’ the sym code & pour mayhem.”
In the message, “0din’” likely stands for “zero-daying,” meaning attacks launched against unpatched vulnerabilities.
Also on Monday, Yama Tough claimed that he had some or all of the source code for pcAnywhere, a multi-platform remote access suite that Symantec sells.
“PCAnywhere code is being released to blackhat community for 0d expltin!,” said Yama Tough, again on Twitter.
I love to crow as much as anyone about Symantec falling on its face, but this LoD Yama Tough guy keeps providing links to files that just don’t exist. If he is an uber haxor he seems to be doing it wrong. He may be just another yokel running around with a Guy Fawkes avatar who thinks they are l33t.
I think Symantec might be playing it safe by suggesting the attention to their files may bring concentrated efforts at cracking their software.

Liberal Anonymous Hacker Cries Over Lack of Twitter

Meet Vincent Kershaw, a liberal landscaper who took the advice of script kiddies from 4Chan, and launched the “Low Orbit Ion Cannon” denial of service attack pings of death against PayPal because his liberal hero Julian Assange and Wikileaks had their donations cut off for the treasonous posting of top secret materials.
Now Vinnie is complaining to a judge that he can’t exercise his freedom of speech without having access to his twitter account and IRC channels. From TSG here:
An alleged “Anonymous” member under indictment for participating in an online attack against PayPal wants a federal judge to allow him to use Twitter, arguing that he is unfairly being prohibited from participating in discussions of the 2012 election cycle, including discourse initiated by President Barack Obama, who has recently vowed to personally post tweets to the social networking site.
Kershaw, who works as a foreman at a Fort Collins landscaping firm, also wants Judge D. Lowell Jensen to allow him to use Internet Relay Chat so that he can participate in “political debate” and “political speech” in IRC chat rooms.
Along with 13 codefendants, Kershaw was named last July in an indictment charging him with conspiracy and intentional damage to a protected computer. The felony charges carry a combined maximum of 15 years in prison and a $500,000 fine.
The accused “Anonymous” members participated in a coordinated online attack against PayPal that was prompted by the firm’s suspension of Wikileaks’s account.
Kershaw and his co-conspirators don’t know each other but they collaborated by downloading a denial of service tool, using it from their home computers, and attacking a legitimate business. The attacks were easily traced and logs used by law enforcement to round-up the not-too-bright dupes who thought they were engaged in “cyber activism.” Kershaw would be down smoking dope at OccupyFortCollins if he could just read twitter to find out where it is. I wonder if the judge will grant his request?

British African Couple Torture Child to Death to Purge his Witchcraft

There are quite a few people that preach that we should respect other cultures, but most cultures from Africa have no redeeming qualities. Case in point: Congolese people believe that witches influence everyone and the only way to purge bad behavior is to go to a church and have the witchiness beaten out of you. This belief system is called kindoki. And when Congolese people are allowed to immigrate abroad and aren’t required to adopt the customs of the new country, idiotic beliefs lead to death. In this case, Eric Bikubi and Magalie Bamu tortured and killed a 15 year old boy because they thought he was under the influence of witches. The victim, Kristy Bamu, was visiting them from France in 2010 for a Christmas vacation.

A teenager accused of witchcraft was tortured to death by his sister and her partner in ‘a tale of horror’ on Christmas Day, the Old Bailey heard. Eric Bikubi, 27, and Magalie Bamu, 28, attacked Kristy Bamu, 15, and his two sisters with pliers, knives and a hammer after accusing them of being ‘sorcerers’, it is claimed.
Kristy was in such pain after days of being attacked with sticks, a metal bar, hammer and chisel that he begged to die, jurors heard. The teenage boy had suffered more than 100 injuries – his face and head were covered in cuts and some of his teeth were missing when he was found in the blood-soaked flat.
He had died from a combination of his injuries and drowning.
The court was told he was in such pain and so exhausted from his ordeal that when he was forced into a bath he could not keep his head above the water.
The paramedics also found Kristy’s four siblings – brothers Yves, 22, and a 13-year-old, and two sisters Kelly, 20, and a younger sister. ‘All were standing in the living room, hysterical, terrified and soaking wet. None of them spoke any English. Both girls appeared to be injured,’ said Mr Altman.
The teenager was killed because he was suspected of witchcraft.
As it turns out, this couple had attacked others for sorcery in Britain too.

New Swedish File Sharing Religion More Retarded Than Buddhism

In the category of dumbest religion ever, a new challenger has arisen: Kopimism, a new Swedish religion based on the belief that information wants to be free. Their holy icons are the CTRL+C and CTRL+V and their patron saint is Julian Assange.

A “church” whose central tenet is the right to file-share has been formally recognised by the Swedish government. The Church of Kopimism claims that “kopyacting” – sharing information through copying – is akin to a religious service.
The church, which holds CTRL+C and CTRL+V (shortcuts for copy and paste) as sacred symbols, does not directly promote illegal file sharing, focusing instead on the open distribution of knowledge to all.
“For the Church of Kopimism, information is holy and copying is a sacrament. Information holds a value, in itself and in what it contains and the value multiplies through copying. Therefore copying is central for the organisation and its members. Being recognised by the state of Sweden is a large step for all of Kopimi. Hopefully this is one step towards the day when we can live out our faith without fear of persecution,” said the religion’s founder.
So copyright protection is now equivalent of religious persecution to these nutbags. I would love to see the MPAA and RIAA run their version of the Spanish Inquisition on their asses. And I think it will become the official religion of Occupy Wall Street.

LA Arsonist Was Son of Hollywood Whore UPDATE: Mom Extradition Over Failure to Pay for Boob Job

Harry Burkhart, the LA arsonist in jail under suspicion for having set 53 fires in the Hollywood area in retaliation for his Mom getting deported, was a deeply emotionally disturbed man because his Mom was a professional prostitute. That insight is revealed via this ABC video:
Note on this Hollywood whore’s website, she notes that she simply won’t bang men younger than her son.
So maybe Burkhart wasn’t torching cars in a pot-hazed act of support of Occupy Wall Street after all. With a whore for a Mom, running town to town like a gypsy, there is a lot to be angry about. But his home was still steeped in leftist values of far-eastern religious philosophy, overt sexuality, drugs, and addiction.
UPDATE! It is not a deportation. Its an extradition to Germany because the arsonist’s Mom, Dorothee Burkhart, ran out on a bill for breast augmentation surgery performed on her in Frankfurt.

The mother of a German man accused of setting numerous fires in Los Angles has been charged in Germany with 19 counts of fraud. Court documents unsealed Tuesday say Dorothee Burkhart was charged in Frankfurt in case in which she is accused of not paying for a 2004 breast-augmentation surgery.
Dorothee Burkhart made a brief appearance in federal court, seeming perplexed and repeatedly asked a magistrate judge where her son was.
She wondered aloud if he was dead or had disappeared, and at one point she stated that he is mentally ill.

America-hating Leftist Harry Burkhart Arrested for LA Arson Spree

There has been some speculation over the past couple of days that the arsonist behind the spree of fires in Hollywood was likely a displaced Occupy Wall Streeter, but no one was sure. Even after police made an arrest of a person of interest, but didn’t release the name, the speculation ranged from OWSer to Jihadist. Now the cops have released the name: Harry Burkhart, probable German citizen, and he was driving a minivan with British Columbia license plates, and was mad because his Mom got deported.

authorities revealed the suspect is 24-year-old male named Harry Burkhart. Authorities confirm that the man detained last night, a 24-year-old white male, was questioned and ultimately charged in conjunction with the recent string of 53 arson fires.
The suspect was taken into custody at around 3 a.m. today in Hollywood; he matched the description of the “person of interest” seen in video released by the LAPD Sunday. He was in a vehicle with British Columbia plates, but is speculated to be a German national, upset about his mother’s deportation.
And from LAWeekly here, he said he “Hated America” when he was arrested.
The man who terrorized L.A. for three nights with a series of 53 arson fires turned out to be a 24-year-old from Germany identified as Harry Burkhart, at least according to authorities.
“I hate America” were the words he reportedly uttered after he was pulled out of his car during a traffic stop at Sunset Boulevard near Fairfax Avenue shortly after 3 this morning following another outbreak of fires in nearby West Hollywood.
You know, there have been loads of Canadians who came to LA and Oakland and San Francisco to join in the merry frolicking of the Occupy Wall Street protests, and he was perhaps targeting the property of the 1Percenters. Still too early to say for sure, but I think we can scratch off jihadist at this point. But you can rest assured that if there is a link to OWS, he will be disavowed by their movement. Or they will find some words uttered by Sarah Palin referencing “fire” and try to blame her for the arsonist’s motives.
Oh, and one more guarantee: This kid was a pot smoker.
UPDATE! I did a search for Harry Burkhart and marijuana and I found this open letter to the President begging to decriminalize pot. Same guy?

They have managed to keep McKinnon from facing justice, and it has really turned into a war of attrition. And the Occupiers rang in the New Year by attacking cops and attempting to recapture Zuccotti Park. From the NYPost here:
Some 800 Occupy Wall Street protesters began the new year by trying to retake Zuccotti Park last night, starting a massive clash with police in which one officer was stabbed in the hand with a pair of scissors.
A suspect was arrested in the 11:30 p.m. incident. Hundreds in the crowd of occupiers then surrounded the ambulance as it tried to leave with the wounded officer.
Shortly before midnight OWS protesters took to Twitter to proclaim their assault on Zuccotti — from which they were booted by cops in November.
“Barricades being torn down at liberty [Zuccotti] park,” they wrote. “Happy new years!!”
They later tweeted: “Big crowd at liberty square. We have taken back the park.”
Some 100 cops initially responded to the scene, including mounted police to maintain crowd control.
At one point, some of the protestors surrounded the circle of cops, before reinforcements were called in.
The Occutards thought that they could take over someone else’s property in the city while the cops were largely working the crowds at Times Square. The mobs will just continue to be violent.

WalMart Employees Smarter than You Think

A dude created or printed a fake Million Dollar bill and tried to spend it at WalMart. Now he’s in jail trying to pay his bail.

A Lexington man tried to use a fake $1 million bill to pay for his purchases at a Walmart.
Michael Anthony Fuller, 53, walked into the Walmart on Lowes Boulevard in Lexington on Nov. 17. He shopped for a while, picking up a vacuum cleaner, a microwave oven and other merchandise, totaling $476.
When he got to the register, Fuller gave the cashier the phony bill, saying that it was real. Store staff called police.
Fuller was later charged with attempting to obtain property by false pretense and uttering a forged instrument, both felonies.
Fuller was being held Friday night in the Davidson County Jail with bond set at $17,500.
The stupidity; it’s staggering.

The Feds Have the Goods on Manning – And Assange Too

It is well known that I think that Bradley Manning’s actions in leaking classified and top secret files to Wikileaks was tantamount to treason. Also, I think that the release of the files by Wikileaks was tantamount to conspiracy to commit treason. Conspiracy is supposed to be coordinated actions by known accomplices, but with the advent of social media and the Internet, you don’t have to know your co-conspirators anymore- just to work toward a common criminal enterprise. Wikileaks provided the platform to leak stolen classified files, and Manning was just a willing accomplice. I never once imagined that Manning and Julian Assange, the owner of the data leak site, had actually worked together to exfiltrate the data. The Army laid out its case against Manning and said they have the goods on Assange too.

The government finished making its case against accused WikiLeaks source Bradley Manning Thursday morning with a 60-minute closing statement that piled on new details and exhibits, including snippets of 15 pages of chats allegedly between the Army intelligence analyst and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
The prosecution flashed three chat logs onscreen that purportedly show correspondence between Manning and Assange discussing uploading so-called JTF-GITMO documents — classified assessment reports about Guantanamo Bay detainees. The chats also refer to two U.S. State Department cables about Reykjavik, Iceland, as well as a request from Manning to help him crack a password so that he could log onto his work SIPRnet computer anonymously.
The evidence clearly showed that Manning abused his security clearance and intelligence training to leak damaging information “using WikiLeaks’ ‘Most Wanted list as his guiding light.” Prior to Manning’s leaks to the organization, WikiLeaks had published a wishlist of documents and data it hoped leakers would send it.
Manning’s classified work computer accessed the State Department server 794,000 times in order to steal more than 250,000 cables that WikiLeaks subsequently published.
On March 8, 2010 at 1:42am while Manning was working the nightshift in the SCIF, he burned the JTF-GITMO documents to a CD and immediately thereafter began uploading them to WikiLeaks.
In another chat, dated March 8, 2010, Manning asked “Nathaniel Frank,” believed to be Assange, about help in cracking the main password on his classified SIPRnet computer so that he could log on to it anonymously. He asked “Frank” if he had experience cracking IM NT hashes (presumably it’s a mistype and he meant NTLM for the Microsoft NT LAN Manager). “Frank” replied yes, that they had “rainbow tables” for doing that. Manning then sent him what looked like a hash.
Investigators say they located copies of the Iraq and Afghanistan action reports on an SD memory card belonging to Manning, a spreadsheet of scripts designed to scrape State Department cables, and copies of the disturbing Apache helicopter video, published by WikiLeaks under the title “Collateral Murder.”
Wikileaks, which donated only $15,000 of a promised $50,000 to Manning’s defense fund, complicated Manning’s defense by publishing the Iran and Afghanistan war and the trove of State Department cables after Manning was arrested.
I had posted a blog that mentioned that Assange had went into hiding after the Manning arrest, and how Assange’s supporters had speculated that the CIA had nabbed him. But Assange was actually working to get himself into a country where it would be difficult to extradite him.
So Assange personally conspired with Manning to divulge classified information. That makes Assange a spy, folks. We need to get Assange.
