A former tennis pro who fraudulently brought four children from the African nation of Togo to the U.S. and forcing them to work as slaves in his Michigan home was sentenced Monday to more than 11 years in federal prison.

Jean-Claude Toviave, who didn’t apologize when provided the opportunity to speak at his sentencing hearing in Detroit, also was ordered to pay two of the children $60,000 each. Prosecutors asked U.S. District Judge Arthur Tarnow to sentence Toviave to the maximum sentence within the guidelines, and he did, handing down a 135-month sentence, with credit for about two years of time served.

The four children emigrated from Togo in 2006 with fraudulent immigration paperwork that listed them as being Toviave’s biological children, which they are not. He enrolled some of them in middle school when they arrived. They now range in age from teenagers to young adults.
The victims said Toviave beat them with toilet plungers, broomsticks and electrical cords and starved them if they didn’t follow his orders. They were forced to vacuum, iron, cook, clean and shine shoes at the home in Ypsilanti, near Ann Arbor, for nearly five years until January 2011.

In a court filing, prosecutors said the 6-foot-3, 230-pound Toviave, who was a tennis pro in Togo until 1990, ‘savagely’ beat the children if their chores weren’t finished or completed to his satisfaction.

The nation of Togo has a large Islamic community, but the largest state religion is the “indigenous belief” system, which is typically animist, and other witchdoctor stuff. In other words, an even more stone-age religion than Islam. Just more proof that Africa is hell.

A lion killed a woman while she was having sex in the bush with her boyfriend. He managed to escape wearing nothing but a condom.

The woman, identified as Sharai Mawera, was mauled to death in the attack in Mahombekombe, Kariba in Zimbabwe. She was severely injured in her neck and stomach.

Her boyfriend, a fisherman who was not identified, heard the lion roar. They had been having sex in a sideways position and he managed to escape wearing nothing but a condom. He turned back to see Mawera being mauled and rushed to a nearby road for help.

Motorists refused to stop, however. As he was naked, it is presumed that many thought he was suffering from mental health problems.

British border officials have seized 94 kilogrammes (207 pounds) of dried caterpillars from a man who claimed they were “for personal consumption”, Britain’s interior ministry said Friday.

Officials at Gatwick Airport, south of London, found the bugs in the luggage of a 22-year-old man who flew in from Burkina Faso via Istanbul on February 23.

“When officers checked his luggage they discovered tens of thousands of dried caterpillars shrink-wrapped in cellophane, which had been packed into four hessian bags,” the interior ministry said.

“The man claimed that they were for personal consumption and that they were to be used as food.”

But the caterpillars breached British rules on importing products of animal origin and will be destroyed.

These aborted baby butterflies were probably something to be used in witchcraft.

There are cash-strapped governments and there are broke governments. And then there’s Zimbabwe, which, after paying last week’s government salaries, has just $217 left in the bank. No, we didn’t forget any zeroes to the end of that figure. Zimbabwe, the country that’s home to some of the world’s largest plutonium and diamond reserves, literally has the same financial standing as a 14-year-old girl after a really good birthday party. The country’s finance minister admitted as much in a press conference on Tuesday. “Last week when we paid civil servants there was $217 [left] in government coffers,” Tendai Biti told reporters. “The government finances are in paralysis state at the present moment. We are failing to meet our targets.”

So it seems. However, Zimbabwe is hardly a stranger to financial hyperbole. The economy started to come apart at the seams in 2000, when President Robert Mugabe seized the land of over 4,000 white-owned farmers, effectively dismantling the country’s agriculture industry. Over the course of the next decade, the country spiraled into an extended period of hyperinflation, the likes of which the world almost never sees. It peaked in August 2008, when inflation reached 11,200,000 percent and economists around the world started to say that the country’s situation was hopeless. Prices were doubling by the day, and the government had to print Z$100 billion notes. The following year, they went ahead and printed Z$100 trillion notes, just before deciding to chop 12 zeroes off of the currency. A new coalition government formed that year and started on the long process of financial recovery, a process that is clearly going to take a little longer.

Zimbabwe has a balanced budget. The United States does not.

Workers at a farm in Limpopo, South Africa round up thousands of crocodiles after they swam free during heavy rain – but many more remain on the loose.

Up to 15,000 crocodiles fled the Rakwena Crocodile Farm in the far north of South Africa when owners were forced to open the gates to prevent a storm surge after the nearby Limpopo river rose.
Workers, who staged an all-night capture operation, managed to round up 2,000 or so of the reptiles, but many more remained at large.

Crocodiles are said to be easier to catch at night because their eyes shine red in the dark.
One of the escapees turned up on a school rugby pitch 75 miles away, and local residents have been warned not to approach the crocodiles if they see them.

I wonder if hogtied crocs make PETA vegans cry? I sure hope so.

A crowd stampeded after leaving a New Year’s fireworks show early Tuesday in Ivory Coast’s commercial center, killing 61 people — many of them youths — and injuring more than 200.

Thousands had gathered at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan’s Plateau district to see the fireworks. After the show, the crowds poured onto the Boulevard de la Republic by the Hotel Tiama at about 1 a.m.

Most of those killed were between 8 and 15 years old. Hours after the stampede, soldiers patrolled the site, where victims’ clothes, shoes and other debris littered the street. State TV showed traumatic scenes: a woman sobbed in the back of an ambulance; another was bent over on the side of the street, apparently in pain; and another, barely conscious and wearing only a bra on her upper body, was hoisted up by rescuers.

This is not Ivory Coast’s first stadium tragedy. In 2009, 22 people died and over 130 were injured in a stampede at a World Cup qualifying match at the Houphouet Boigny stadium. The stadium, which officially holds 35,000, was overcrowded at the time of the disaster.

A year later, two people were killed and 30 wounded in a stampede at a municipal stadium during a reggae concert in Bouake.

Getting crushed in a stampede is an awful way to go, but it seems these folks in Ivory Coast just don’t learn their lessons. How many more stampedes will they have before self-absorbed Hollywood douchebags ban together to make a shitty black and white video chiding Africans for stampeding?

At least nine health care workers in Pakistan have been murdered this week by militants who oppose the country’s polio vaccination program, which has now been suspended in the areas of the attacks.

The killing began in Karachi on Monday, when a supervisor of a polio vaccination team was killed. Four vaccine administrators, all women, were killed on Tuesday. On Wednesday, gunmen shot dead a female health worker and her driver in the town.

“Most of the polio workers were shot at point blank,” a Pakistani Intelligence officer said. “This is (a) typical style of Taliban.”

Militants suspect people working for the United Nations or non-governmental organizations that manage the vaccine programs are actually spies for the United States. Others mistakenly believe or spread the false claim that the polio vaccine will make children sterile.

Militants targeted the polio campaign last year after unverified reports surfaced that Dr. Shakil Afridi had helped the CIA run a fake polio campaign in the northwestern city of Abbottabad to gather DNA from the Bin Laden compound. The campaign was in fact for Hepatitis B, but militants still view the anti-polio vaccine as American poison.

Pakistan ranks second among the three countries where the polio threat still exists, ahead of Afghanistan and behind Nigeria. Efforts to eradicate polio in Pakistan have thus far proven beneficial, officials said, reducing the number of cases by 70 percent.

Shocker the top three countries where polio is still rampant are all Islamic-controlled. Science and enlightenment threatens Islamists’ hold on society.

But the most famous of all Shit Sandwich Eaters is Hillary Clinton, who stuck with her cheating husband while he carried on multiple affairs including one with a White House Intern. She picked shit out of her teeth while she ran for President and had to settle for second place as head of the State Department. And now, as head of the State Department, she went to “Newly Democratic” Egypt where Egyptians booed her, pelted her with tomatoes and reminded her that she is a cuckolded hag by shouting “Monica, Monica!” at her. And they did it for the lulz.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was taunted by chants of “Monica, Monica” by tomato-throwing demonstrators as she visited the Egyptian port city of Alexandria on Sunday.

The chants, referring to the Monica Lewinsky scandal when her husband, Bill Clinton, was president, were heard outside the US consulate as she visited for its reopening.

An embarrassed Egyptian security official said they were chanting “Monica, Monica” and “Irhal, Clinton” (Get out, Clinton.) Tomatoes, shoes and a water bottle were thrown at part of Clinton’s motorcade as it pulled up, protected by riot police, although a US official said Clinton’s own vehicle was not hit. The protest appears to have been the result of suspicions that Washington had helped the Muslim Brotherhood win elections in Egypt in the wake of last year’s ouster of president Hosni Mubarak after 18 days of massive street protests.

Egypt hasn’t forgotten and neither have we. I just regret we Americans don’t have the balls to chant Monica Monica whenever Bill or Hillary make a public appearance.

About 100 people have been killed when a gasoline tanker crashed on the east-west road in Nigeria’s oil-producing Niger Delta and caught fire. The fuel tanker was trying to avoid a head-on collision with buses when it swerved into a ditch, leaving its fuel to spill.

People trooped to the scene obviously to scoop the spilled fuel and suddenly there was fire resulting in casualties.

Some troops who reached the crash site before the fire broke out told people to clear off, but many ignored the warning.

Some of those taken to the hospital were burned beyond recognition, while others appeared treatable.

Crashes are common on Nigeria’s pot-holed and poorly maintained roads, and in a region where most people live on less than $2 a day the chance to collect spilling petrol is too much of a temptation, despite the high risk of fires.

Of course this is an awful, tragic thing, but if it stops just one Nigerian Advance Fee Fraud email?
