Darrell Dunafon And His Shocking Thrill-Seeking

Darrell Dunafon was a dumbass. He was an adrenaline junkie always looking for the next big thrill. What could be more thrilling than illegally breaking onto private property in the middle of the night to scale a 400 foot cellphone tower? Maybe jumping off?

[ad code=2 align=center]

Probably not as thrilling as getting your chute tangled in those high-tension high-voltage powerlines. Shocker, he’s dead.

From Suntimes here:

A Tucson man has died after parachuting from a cell phone tower at night and hitting high-voltage power lines.

Pinal County sheriff’s Lt. Tamatha Villar says 23-year-old Darrell Dunafon and two friends broke into a cell tower site about 30 miles south of Phoenix on Friday night and were parachuting off the approximately 400-foot-tall antennae.

Dunafon’s parachute became tangled in nearby 12,000-volt power lines and he was shocked with a live wire.

Villar says the two friends called for help, and rescue crews turned off the power and cut Dunafon down.

I wonder if the workers who cut this dumbass down got paid overtime for being woken in the middle of the night?

Do not talk about fight club. Oops.

  • “Legacy” eh? Is that valuable? Will it cover funeral costs because he damn sure won’t draw any life insurance benefits, that’s for sure.

  • Relative

Pat, What is valuable is the fact that the rest of us can walk around with our heads held high with respect for ourselves and our loved ones. You have neither. I am also done with you.

  • Christie Staffa

Thank you, Darrell Dunafon… for proudly serving your country and protecting this asshole’s right to free speech.

  • Will the Darrell’s estate have to pay for damages to the cell tower and power lines? Just wonderin’…

  • I jump from perfectly good airplanes

It’s obvious you like to stir shit up, you have probably been waiting all day to ask that question.

I notice that you have quite a few postings on BelchSpeak which makes me wonder if you have a job or some purpose in life other than spewing hatred.

  • isthatupat?

His name is Pat Belcher and this is his website…..as far as i can tell…simple searches wil give you his phone numbers and address.

  • I play near powerlines

According to his about page on the site Pat appears to be unemployed. Probably from causing conflict between employees and not knowing when to stop at work. Looks like instead of finding and making friends in the real world he has chosen to try to gloat rub in the loss of a family memebr and friend to many to everyone who cares about him. Pat grow some balls and cut Darrel some slack. Theres no reason to keep dragging this out for your own self satisfaction

  • Christie, seriosly, what does a spool of high tension wire run these days? Gotta be at least 2 Grand what with the price of copper and all. And those salaries of the utility guys who had to show up and pick him out of the wires, those are Union guys probably, so we’re talking ’bout at least 25 bucks per hour or more for overtime.

    It adds up.

  • I just donated a pair of Jumper Cables in Darrell Dunafon’s name to the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program. Thought it was appropriate.

    You’re Welcome.

  • VideoGameGuy

What a sad, sad human being this “Pat” person is. I suggest nobody else reply to him so it doesn’t fuel his love of hate. This in-“duh”-vidual is nothing more than a hate monger and someone whom likes to hurt people. He/she/it is not worth our time. This will be my only post.

  • Yeah, send all your love letters there, genius.
user @ 71.41.4.106 in Austin Texas, threatening people online is a criminal act. Don’t be stupid like Darrell and do something that will ruin your life.

  • Relative2

Pat, you are truly a piece of work. I would like to say that I don’t hate you for saying these ugly things. I pity you for your stupidity. He led more of a life than you do. You may call it stupidity, but at least he got off the couch and sought adventure in life. As far as him having a “shocking” death, it was certainly unexpected, but he did was he loved to do. He experienced adrenaline, but he also experienced freedom. I only wish that you could experience the same. I wish you the best in your life. And remember, in your words, “Karma is a bitch ain’t it?” And please, for the sake of the other posters, get a dictionary and learn to spell.

  • Adunafon,
Your IP says you are from Tucson. Was Darrell supposed to be staying with you when he broke into the Cellphone tower property?

Yes, shocking that he died, and by shocking I mean ‘electrocution,’ not ‘surprising.’ And it shouldn’t have been a surprise to you or your family either.

Went out doing what he loves, eh? Would that be breaking and entering or the love of dangling?

  • jess234

People do dumb things, also known as mistakes, all the time, and often pay for them. To say “karma is a bitch” and the like is unfortunate and horrible. That is saying people should never make mistakes, and if they do, God help them because they must be punished. Ya, what he did was dumb, but it was a mistake that everyone who loved him is paying for as well as he paid for it with his life. And to say your loved ones will live past 23, well let’s certainly hope they do, but accidents happen , as so mistakes. Quit trying to tarnish his memory and let him rest in peace…being so negative when you don’t know him has got to be rough on his family that read this. Do something constructive with your time and get off your hateful soap box.

  • Jess,
Merry Christmas! Look, what Darrell did was NOT a mistake nor an accident. A mistake would be thinking he was climbing a tree, not breaking into a secured site in a brazen act of criminal trespass.

His death was the culmination of ever-increasing acts of daring that no one- family nor friends- told him to stop. He is gone because of consequences of his thrill seeking. Not an accident. Not a mistake. Try to come to grips with this simple fact- that when you do stupid things, you risk death.

And crap, this story just made me remember I needed to get double A batteries for the toys I bought.

  • jess234

I am not sure why you think you get to define someone’s interpretation of a mistake. In my OPINION, which you cannt prove wrong or right, it was a mistake to jump off of something that could get you electrocuted. It is simply a waste of time to be cold hearted when his life was lost. It is clearly, also a waste of time to try and have you gain some compassion for life. Personally, all life , including those of dumb thrill seekers, is important. His life was important. That being said, everyone is responsible for their own actions. If someone, especially a 23 year old man, wants to do something, nothing anyway says will change his mind. Also, how do you know friends and family weren’t against this? You don’t know that. It is not right to assume that. People have free will….and don’t think people in his life are going to be debating this all the time. They definitely don’t need you to help them with that. If you can even call what you are doing help…
To see you try and play this down as a joke makes me sad. I regret ever contributing to this site, because again, it was a waste of time. Everyone has their own views. Yours just happen to be mean. Like I said, this makes me just plain sad. I forget sometimes people are cold-hearted. Merry Christmas, on that note.

  • JPRMQN

JUST SO YOU KNOW YOU DUMB FUCK THAT POSTED THIS I KNEW HIM AND HE WAS NOT A DUMBASS HE WAS A SOLDIER WHO RISKED HIS LIFE SO YOUR LAZY FAT ASS COULD POST SOMETHING SO DEGRADING TO ONE OF OUR HEROS YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THIS SHIT. FOR ANYONDE READING THIS HE WAS NOT A DUMBASS HE WAS A BRAVE SOLDIER AND NICE AS CAN BE. SO IGNORE THIS DUMB FUCK YOU ARE SOO LUCKY I DONT KNOW WHO YOU ARE…

  • Jess, you really need to base your english language words on a dictionary, not on what your “opinion” tells you the words mean. Its hard to communicate when you can’t agree on words.

More evidence of the fact you make up shit as definitions of words is that you laughingly say Darrell “valued” his life. People who value their lives don’t risk throwing it away by committing crimes that get them killed. That’s a fact. People who wantonly risk their lives in the commission of crimes are usually crazy.

And JPRMQN, you just wish your keyboard had TWO caps lock buttons so you could type even louder. Darrell was a VET, not a SOLDIER at the time of his death. Get it right. David Carradine was a vet too, and he died strangling himself while he jerked off. He was a dumbass too. But at least he was a millionaire and made it to the age of 72. If you knew who I was, what would you do to me?

  • JPRMQN

JUST SO EVERY ONE KNOWS THAT POST ABOVE WAS MEANT FOR PAT…

  • JPRMQN

FUCK YOU PAT!!!! DONT TRY TO CORRECT ME LIKE YOU KNEW ANYTHING ABOUT HIM. CUZ YOU DIDNT… YOU KNOW THE DAY YOU LOSE A LOVED ONE WHO EVER MAY BE CLOSEST TO YOU I HOPE THEY MAKE A PAGE JUST LIKE THIS ONE TALKING A WHOLE BUNCH OF SHIT ABOUT YOU LOVED ONE.

  • proudsista

JP, Jess and the rest of you posters let’s not waste our time trying to save a poor mans soul who quite obviously has no respect for himself or anyone else. It simply is not worth the time and although I’m sure Buddy aka Darrell is honored we are standing up for his name, I am also sure he would not want is to waste our time on debating with a man with such a closed mind. Instead my friends let’s rejoice Buddys life! You can find a site on Facebook where all those that love him and miss him can post stories, thoughts and pictures.

Pat, god bless your soul! Perhaps one day you will learn to have some human decentcy

  • If my loved one makes a flying leap from a cell tower in a hilarious attempt to skydive in the dark into high voltage powerlines I will be the one making that page. And that capslock is the one on the left above the shift key.
