I guess the gangs of dog killers are taking a month off to rest their swinging arms.

Dog meat has been struck from the menus of officially designated Olympic restaurants, and Beijing tourism officials are telling other outlets to discourage consumers from ordering dishes made from dogs, the official Xinhua News Agency reported Friday.
Waiters and waitresses should “patiently” suggest other options to diners who order dog, it said, quoting city tourism bureau Vice Director Xiong Yumei.
Dog, known in Chinese as “xiangrou,” or “fragrant meat,” is eaten by some Chinese for its purported health-giving qualities.

This just makes me ill. Honestly. And how the poor dogs are killed is enough for me to boycott just watching the Olympics on TV! There is no way in hell I’d even consider going to China…
I know I’m going to boycott the Olympics on TV. I would have loved for Bush to have had the guts to stay out of china too.
If China wants to recruit investors via the Olympics exposure, they had better get rid of dog on the menu permanently. It only perpetuates the notion that they remain a backwards, third-world country that has no clue how to act in the modern world.
That pic of those guys killing dogs in the streets with sticks conjures up intentionally forgotten images of baby-seal clubbing that traumatized me when I was 12.
