The Amazing CanTab Chair

You know all those pull tabs from soda cans that most normal people throw away? A friend of mine, Brad, collects them for his amazing art. And he gets his friends to collect them too. He wants thousands of them so he can make artwork like his Amazing CanTab Chair pictured below.
The silvery portion of this chaise lounge chair is made out of interwoven Can Tabs. Over 40,000 of them. Here is the closeup of what the weave looks like.
He has lots of pictures of the build and design process for this piece of art on the MySpace page. And his chair is for sale too. According to his site on MySpace here:
The frame was constructed of two pieces of ¾” plywood on each side, held together with 3/8” all thread steel rod. The seating surface is made of aluminum can tabs, 40,000+ of them, strung onto 1/16” galvanized steel cable. It took me about 3 years to design, collect tabs, and build the chair. The chair is for sale, but I have no idea how much. I am very interested in displaying it in galleries, museums, etc.
The chair is currently on display at Artomatic, an artist’s festival and gallery running now in Washington DC. Check out details for the show here.

Loading ...WordPress Headaches

Ever since I upgraded to WP 2.5.1, my posts have taken forever to upload or have failed completely. I am pretty sure it had something to do with the autosave function of new posts because I was collecting multiple draft versions of everything I wrote, whereas before the upgrade, old autosaved drafts self-deleted.
But thanks to some great advice from RT Cunningham here, I was able to comment out the auto-save functions, regain my posting speed and regain my sanity. I hope WP fixes this bug in the next release.

He went to Duke University to have the procedure performed by miniature brain-eating zombie field mice. Thanks to FARK for this lulzy picture that shows the results of the advanced procedure.

Sen. Edward Kennedy, a leading Democrat and patriarch of a prominent U.S. political dynasty, said he would undergo surgery on Monday for treatment of a brain tumor diagnosed last month.
Kennedy, 76, said in a statement he would have “targeted” surgery on Monday at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, followed by chemotherapy and radiation at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Surgery was to start at about 9 a.m. EDT and was expected to last about six hours, media reports said. Kennedy, the youngest brother of assassinated U.S. President John F. Kennedy, said he expected to be hospitalized at Duke for about a week.
Kennedy was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor called a glioma, a type of tumor that usually kills within three years.
I sure hope he don’t die or nothin!

I missed this last week while on travel. It seems that Rachael Ray was wearing a stupid keffiyah when she made a commercial for Dunkin Donuts. A keffiyah is a Palestinian scarf made popular by the terror leader Yassir Arafat, and it’s a symbol of unity of the Palestinian struggle against the Jews. Any American wearing one of these should be flattened into a Rachel Corrie pancake. Once Dunkin donuts realized the mistake, they pulled the commercial.

I am certain that Rachael Ray is too fat and stupid to make the mistake of picking out this scarf for her on-air shoot. But I really hope she fired her wardrobe people responsible for draping her in a symbol of hate.

It is great to be back from the west coast, although I’m just a tad jetlagged. When I landed in Virginia, I noted the decent temperature denoting a Summer Month along with the high humidity. But at least there wasn’t as much Smug polluting the air as there was back in San Jose.
Yep, everyone really did drive way too many prius hybrids and put stupid fruit on their sandwiches. It’s a land where even trailer homes sell for 400K.
