Reason 181 to HomeSchool: Band Teacher Won’t Teach Your Daughter the Rusty Trombone
Meet Byron Toups. He’s pushing 40 but still likes to make it with 16-year-old High School girls. He was arrested yesterday for banging one girl and trying to kiss another one at a Band Camp.

Byron Toups, 39, A Destrehan High School band director, was arrested Tuesday at the school during his break from teaching classes for having sex with a 16-year-old student. He was booked with molestation of a juvenile, indecent behavior with a juvenile and simple battery involving two female students.
Toups is charged with having sex with a 16-year-old student in his home during the 2006-07 school year. In another incident, Toups tried to kiss a 17-year-old student during a band camp at Destrehan High School last summer.
Toups, who has taught at the school since 1999, was taken to the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center in Killona.
Some students, however, remain enthusiastic about Toups and his intimate Band Camps.

I personally know Toups and he is not a bad man. If you knew the girl he “supposedly” slept with you’d understand why it seems so foney to many of the teachers and students at DHS. This is a horrible thing to say about a man like him. Even if he did sleep with that girl she was the one who wanted it, she consented it and even bragged about how she was gonna sleep with him. You only know part of the story, you don’t even know him, so why can you act so judgmental? You have no right.
I can be judgmental if I want to. And according to the news article I linked to, lots of people think he was a complete horndog. And thanks for blaming the victim of the statutory rape. Stay classy.
I know Toups personally, and he’s a douchebag. Maybe he’ll spend some time in jail where he can get acquainted with some guys his age that would like to have happy time with him too.
I personalty knew both of them and this “victim”
wanted it, she asked and if you read about her and see her interviews she admitted to asking him more than once. Yes what he did was wrong, but she did ask for it, she harassed him until he said yes. Sh admitted that. In fact after they finally did she was going around bragging about it. So tell me, who’s the victim? A girl who wanted it and wouldn’t take no for an answer? Or a typical guy who of course wants sex?
I blame the adult. the other is not legally able to make adult decisions or enter into contracts. The adult knows better. And I would have thought that you would know the difference.

i do not know the “victim” in question. however i do know toups and have seen him in “action” he slept with girls at my highschool as well. So you only know the parts that toups let you know… he had been cheating on his now x-wife for years.
Even if the girl did want it, he is the adult and maybe on day you will know what the adult world it like. How dare you balme the “Victim” after toups left the band director that replaced him was more sexual than toups and hounded me daily for sex. it is an AWFUL position to be put in. I hope you never know that feeling. But you should be aware of all situations before you jude.
Yes I do understand he was wrong, but that does not exclude that fact the victim did want and agreed to it. There for putting her as some innocent little girl is not necessary when it was in fact her idea. My only concern is that this victim you talk about is no innocent girl at all. As for the one he tried to kiss I have no idea what’s going on, so perhaps she is a victim, but I do know her as well, and the fact that she went to the school board first instead of the police makes it look like she just wants money. And you have no right to tell me one day i’ll know what the adult world is like. I have been raped by someone older before and i know how it feels but the situation is completely different, this so called “victim” had a lawsuit before and then said nothing happen, now all of a sudden when money is mentioned she’s back in action claiming something really did happen. What does that sound like to you? I do not appreciate people telling me that I have no idea what the adult world it like, you don’t know me, you know what I’ve been through, and I’d appreciate it if you can show me the same respect as I have shown you all. I do not sit there and assume imply any of you have no idea what you’re talking about, and I also keep my temper when this is a very touchy subject for me and many others. Did you know at DHS teachers are making joke about the whole thing, going up to some students in the middle of class ans asking “Did he rape you too?” and then laughing. This is no joking matter.
DHS teachers joking about this is pretty pathetic. Thanks for sharing that. To me, it shows the lack of sensibility and sensitivity to child abuse by those in authority- the very reason I blog about these types of incidents.
I also hope you reported the crime against you to the proper authorities. You can’t say its rape unless you report it.
Whether or not the girl in this story was a complete and total whore has no bearing on the fact that the adult made a decision to have sex with a student. He is the only one capable of making that decision legally and now he’s facing the music for it. Heh, facing the music as a band teacher.
Ok first off we all no toups was wrong but like stated in early blog’s this girl is no angel I personally know 2 or 3 friend’s that have slept with this girl and she is no stranger to having intercourse!The mother was fully aware that her daughter was out sleezing it up with just about anyone that would pay her any kind of attention! This girl is extremely intelligent and know what she was doing and so does this mother why do you think they moved out of state and filed a lawsuit??? after that fact??? This is wrong!!! People that know this girl know that she has reportedly had at least 2 abortion’s with the mother assisting everytime! I personally know a friend that had to be checked for STDS and the fact this girl has had numerous fist fights over her lying and sleeping around on guy’s she is involved with! These are the kind of thing’s the jury need’s to look at! Her past! probe her past I bet it would not take long for the jury see through Her! I hope she look’s stupid in court when they have 30 witnesses come forward how stupid could she be??? moving away is not guna make people forget about the trash you have dumped out and kicked everywhere!
For all you who wanted to say he is such a great person the bas**** is back in jail for violating his parole by breaking into his girlfriends house and beating her up. He is now serving his 5 year sentence! 09-01-10. Yall are all sick!
