Gay Marriage Losing its Appeal
All the rainbow marches, parades, picketing, flights to Massachusetts, contracts and finally- the weddings. Now homosexuals are thinking twice about the whole “marriage thing.” No, its not because someone discovered how unappealing “gay divorce” is, but its a “cultural” decision. As it turns out, getting married just isn’t cool if you are gay.
From NPR here:
Three years after gay marriage become legal in Massachusetts, gays and lesbians, who have come to think of themselves as counter-cultural and unconventional, are now being seen as part of the mainstream.
What happens to “gay identity” when you’re getting married, dealing with a mortgage, kids, picket fences and pressure to “settle down” just like everyone else?
Some in the gay community see marriage as a sell-out and say gay culture will lose its edge. Others welcome a chance to celebrate a gay culture that is more mainstream than extreme.
Who knew that gayness had an “edge?” I knew it had a soft slippery center, but an edge? Nah.
