Lunar Eclipse on Saturday
Mar 2nd
We should see a lunar eclipse in the US on Saturday at moonrise. That would be about 4 PM on the east coast. Many people get excited over such things. I get mildly excited and always have the intention of stargazing or looking through telescopes, but other things always take up my time instead.

I only mention this lunar eclipse because the director of SANS, Marcus Sachs, posted on the Internet Storm Center’s website that the moon was going to be eclipsed on Saturday and that if anything went wrong with computers over the weekend, administrators should feel free to blame it on lunar activity.
From SANS here:
If your systems go haywire this weekend you’ll have a good story to blame it on. “Boss, there was a full moon, a total lunar eclipse, and for all I know sunspots were acting up…..” Your management will have no choice but to believe you.
I may have to try that one. But why stop with computers? I’m going to use the lunar eclipse to excuse any bad behavior I engage in over the weekend.
And from the AFP here:
On the east coast of North America, the Moon will already be eclipsed when it rises at around sunset, while in Asia early risers will get a glimpse of the lunar blackout as the Moon sets.
So where do you go to get official times of all things lunar related? Why to the US Naval Observatory of course, where they track everything related to time.

Installed Vista and Office 2007
Mar 1st
I went out to Best Buy last night and purchased my Vista Home Premium upgrade. Installation went very well. It did not allow me to upgrade my previous installation of my Vista Beta, but it created a new Windows directory and renamed my old directory to windows.old so I can still retrieve settings and programs from the old version if I need to.

I also went to a Microsoft Product Launch today. In exchange for sitting through some informative presentations, I received a full copy of Microsoft Office Professional 2007 for free. The 500 dollars of free software was a sweet deal.
All of this plus my brand new 22-inch Acer LCD Widescreen monitor, and I feel like I have a brand new ‘puter. That Acer monitor is a sweet deal. Its below 300 bucks at Amazon. You can get one by clicking the picture of it below.
