Loading ...My mother spent many years as a school bus driver for the public schools. I think she was generally well-liked by the students she carried back and forth to school. After all, she always got lots of loot from them at Christmas time.
But she would often tell these stories about misbehaving children and how she would deal with them, and invariably these stories involved some sort of extreme disciplinary measure such as sitting on hands (so the kids would stop touching each other), making students cover their mouths with both hands (so they would stop yelling and talking or name calling), or changing seats, confiscation of items, toys, and food. It was not uncommon for my mom to pull the bus over so she could yell at the kids properly.
When SouthPark came on the air, my brothers and I instantly seized on the character of Ms. Crabtree and compared her to our Mom. Ms. Crabtree is the cranky busdriver who would threaten to shoot the cute bunny if the kids didn’t sit down and behave.
She would be horrified to read this story below. Or maybe deep down, she might wonder what it costs to take out a hit on one of the pesky kids that refuse to listen to the driver’s instructions. She would not condone it. But she would understand why the driver might want to do it.

NEWPORT NEWS — Newport News police and school officials are investigating allegations that a bus driver this week encouraged one Passage Middle School student to assault another.
The assault occurred just before 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Beechmont neighborhood in Denbigh after the two boys left the bus and were walking home, police said. On Wednesday, a 12-year-old boy involved in the assault was charged with maiming.
The victim, also a 12-year-old boy, was hospitalized with a head injury. His condition had been upgraded from critical to stable as of Wednesday, said Newport News Police spokeswoman Holly Tepper.
“At least one student on the bus said the driver was overheard telling the boy who was charged with a crime that he would pay him to beat up the other boy,” said school district spokeswoman Michelle Morgan.
