You will see my ignorance through my questions: Are Muslim women even allowed to “bathe” with men? Will they just wear this “bathing suit” to sit in the sun instead of go in the water?

To answer this, it really depends on the local customs and how progressive they are. In Turkey right now, yes, they are allowed. But there is a movement to change that. In Saudi Arabia, there are men that chase women around who show skin, even if they are tourists, and they will smack the women with the sticks.

Its not assault, its the law. See this post: http://www.belch.com/~blog/2006/05/19/islam-forbids-women-to-exercise/

There are also movements to make some swimming pools in the United States open for just muslims on certain days because women are forbidden by the Koran to show their shoulders to anyone other than their husbands. And the same with making some theme parks Muslim only for certain days of the year.

Many Muslim countries are quickly moving backwards where they were once progressive. Somalia, Sudan, Turkey, Iran, Indonesia and Pakistan are all quickly adopting hard line stances on women’s rights.

And this here: http://memri.org/bin/latestnews.cgi?ID=IA29106
It shows how women are often tricked into marrying men and after men have sex with them, they quickly divorce them just by saying “I divorce you” 3 times in public.
