This ticker is probably an accurate measure of the amount of belches emitted worldwide by humans since the beginning of the year. In fact, it might be UNDER the accurate figure, but not by much. Not everyone belches on a daily basis, sad for me to say, and perhaps its sadder for them too. The bloating must be unbearable.
What is also staggering about this figure is the volume of gas emitted per belch, per person. Since belches are mostly carbon dioxide and a bit of methane, and comprise about 3 cubic inches of gas per eruption, this figure represents whole cubic miles of gases released into the planetary atmosphere on a yearly basis. And, religious environmentalists believe that such gases are greenhouse gases which contribute to global warming.
All I can say is "Take THAT you tree hugging hippies!"
This ticker calculation was taken from the Counterpane website. Counterpane is an information security company that is lying about the types and numbers of security events they see on a daily basis, which is exaggerated by at least a factor of 10,000, but most likely a factor of 100,000. I have heard of corporate executives exaggerating their numbers to manipulate figures, such as the whole Enron scandal, but this is ridiculous. So this is my attempt to use their calculation for something that is a bit more honest.
